Folks,

I've grown tired of my misc set of ****** old dull bits that never seem proper for whatever I need to drill through.

Can you recommend some wise investments as to what to turn to?

Brick and Steel are obviously what I struggle with.

Thanks

Brick and steel do not use the same bits...

I see you joined recently. Google drill bits garage journal and it will link you to discussions on here.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
For brick, you need to use masonry bits at the least or SDS masonry bits if you're talking about concrete block and harder stone. For steel, titanium nitride bits at the minimum, cobalt bits for most duties - cobalt can handle the heat better from friction but will break more easily than titanium, need to use oil with them to keep the friction down.

Personally, I use Bosch bits for masonry (Blue Granite type, don't have a SDS drill but I don't need one either, only making small holes in concrete with my hammer drill) and Dewalt Cobalt bits when I need to drill in steel which is pretty rare.
