So my son just turned three and it is time for a boys room instead of a nursery. First step was to replace the ceiling light. It's a fancy light my wife really likes that I would have tossed. It got replaced by a two bladed fan that looks just like a propeller. :) http://www.lowes.com/pd/Kichler-Lig...oor-Ceiling-Fan-with-Remote-2-Blade/999919000

Then I started building a new bed, but this going to take a few more weeks. It will have working headlight, taillights, and blinkers. Wife nixed the horn idea though.

Now i need a tool box to replace the (again) fancy dresser. It is mirrored and looks high dollar, but is way girly. I tried a couple of the Stanley boxes from HD hoping one would be straight. They arrived today but were both really beat up. Great price at $107 each, but i won't do the distressed look unless they are nearly free. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanley-27-in-W-5-Drawer-Tool-Cabinet-Orange-H5TRSO/204711824

Oh, and I have checked the local Craigslist, but came up empty.

I would think that you would want something like above that has larger deep drawers for bulky cloths.

Re: Home Depot Clearance Thread 2015

What about this Craftsman box
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-40-i...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8
It is made by Waterloo and with mostly 6" deep drawers. Clothes should fit well.

I really like this box. The wife thought it was too expensive though. That and I am trying one more time with the Stanley box. Having this one shipped to the store in hopes that UPS is nicer to it. If not, then at least I don't have to deal with a return.

This! However I cheaped out and settled for a cart. Removed the casters so it's stable on carpet and slightly lower.

I bet that cart still wasn't cheap! Though I am sure it is compared to an Epiq. I also am thinking of removing the casters. Otherwise I would imagine my toddler will be pushing it around the house.

I would just turn a dresser into a toolbox to avoid sharp edges and plus you can make what you want. Search toolbox dresser on Google images and there are tons of cool ideas.

I bought two of those in black for my sons room when he was 10, he is 17 now and they are still in use. They are great when your son is smaller not as much when they hit 6'+. I also bought the top boxes to match them and he will get the tops when he buys a house one day so he has some storage for tools etc.

I agree with this. I wouldn't want a metal toolbox in my kids' rooms. I've seen some pictures of wooden dressers painted to look like toolboxes and they looked awesome. You can add a badge or vinyl for whatever logo/brand you want.

What about something like this?

My son used it for years but he's moving out of the house now and done with it. Hell if you ever get down near Ocala I'd let it go really cheap. Like whatever you want to pay cheap. lol

We were looking for the same option when he was young. I think my wife found this at rooms to go or something.

I wouldn't put a metal one in a toddlers room. I would either do a wood made to look like a tool box or just get a plastic setup.

yeah, that kid is gonna start climbing those drawers :willy_nil:willy_nil

and when he slip and falls those 200 pound rated drawers with sharp metal corners

are not gonna give and are really a safety risk.

much better to have a wooden piece of furniture with nice sanded corners and slides that will break before your the poor little guy's head cracks open or something similar.

i'm having a hrad time writing this as a negative nancy but seriously see no reason for a professional toolbox to hold a bunch of nappies and underwear.

maybe when your kid is 3-4 or something you guys can build something together like modular shelves? or something like a nice project to get him interested in things.

but maybe I'm also wrong? dunno :dunno:

Thanks. I'm not going to keep my kid in a padded room, so he needs to learn to deal with sharp corners. That said, he does like to climb stuff and wood would be much less likely to do real damage if it feel on him. I guess it is time to start looking for a good wooden chest.

I did find a good light at a little shop Sat night and only $17
