Recommendation for dealing with this stem wall before mounting cabinets

New to the forum. I have what I assume is a drywalled over stem wall in the back of the tandem part of my garage. My plan is to mount New Age or similar cabinets to the back wall but it interferes with floor mounting and I do not plan on hanging them above that area for it’ll be too high and the workbench won’t sit the way I want it to.

I was thinking of framing a new section of wall just above that area mounted to the existing studs and drywall if over that area to bring it flush so the cabinets can rest on the floor and still mount to the wall. Any better ideas are welcome!

Added an impromptu photo to show my progress before the cabinets and floor go in.

Thanks for any help!

several ways to skin the cat . build it up as you say to install an angle pc of metal at the top to fill the gap. that space might be a good spot to make shelves to store longer pcs of metal or whatever

I have a number of those situations and have taken to building a small "deck" to build out the stem wall over the floor. The cabinets sit on the deck and the stem wall and then I also get a higher counter top, which I also like a lot. Win-Win

If you want to get clever, you can design the elevated space under the cabinet to store... contraband.

If the cabinets are going to cover the entire wall I would just fir out the mounting bracket and be done. You could also add a ledger strip even with the top of the cabinets and add a shelf to prevent anything from falling behind the cabinets.

I'd just sit the cabinets on the floor. You could run a bracket from the back of the cabinet to the wall near the top if you are worried about it falling. I am not sure how wide the wall is but looks like maybe 10ft to me. Seems like 2-3 cabinets will cover it. Or are you doing 1-2 narrow cabinets w/ a work bench in between?

This is the setup I was hoping for. It just fits along that wall.

Pers I would make a platform to raise the outer tall cabinets to sit on. You can slide drain pans and things like that into that space.
then the center part for the workbench I would just have on the ground in front of that step. I would extend that back of the workbench to accommodate a power strip and maybe a airline connection point.
i think the center part sticking out a but will actually look cool

Oh I see. That is going to be very nice. Still I'd skip working on firring out the wall. I'd install it and then get some nice 1x6 boards. Paint them black. Cut one the width of the bench top. Screw it to the bench top so it is flush w/ the wall and closes up the gap. you could also do the cabinets on each side of the bench. On the bottom piece look through all the various trim pieces at your big box store and find and find one 1 1/4" to 1 1/2", paint it black, and tack it to the edge of the 1x6. Now you have a little 5.5" shelf at the back of your workbench.
