Take a look at the two sticky notes at the top of this section - there's a lot of good information there about what light fixtures to use and how many.

I’ve read those till i’m Bleary eyed. They make little sense to me and I’m a chemical engineer with several mechanical and electrical patents. Thanks. I guess I need the garage lighting for lighting dummies.

You should have at least caught the fact that ceil8ng height makes a huge difference - Pick the fixture based off your ceiling height, then the layout/number of fixtures based off a design of a similar size garage that Platonic put together.

Centex Hokie - Not enough info provided. Not that I'm volunteering, but you're missing ceiling height, ceiling shape (flat,vaulted,cathedral), wall/ceiling material and finish, actual drawing of space, budget (emphasis on lowest cost, best lighting or somewhere in between).
