I vote for a percolator!

I have this one and love it!

It makes a damn good cup of joe. I use regular coffee filters in it, by just puncturing a hole in the middle. You wouldn't have to, but it helps keep the grounds out of the coffee. This thing makes better coffee than any drip maker I've ever used. It's made in China, but what the hell isn't these days???

Also, here's it's big brother.

I've got a Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew that I've had for close to 7 years now and still going strong, and I'm like you, going through several pots of coffee a day.

For a regular coffee pot I always recommend a carafe. One break of a glass one will usually end up costing you what the metal one would of in the first place. Cuisinart and Krups are usually what I would recommend if you want to stay a lil under $ 100. Also bunn makes some good ones but can get a lil expensive.

I'll second the the technivorm (btw there is stainless carafe version), not cheap (even close!) but it's the last coffee maker you'll buy probably (or so they say). Newco's got good reviews, yeah and bunn's.

Can I tell a difference in taste? No. Other connoisseurs in the family say they can. I just like it because:

1) it's not all plastic
2) no fancy **** only the stuff that matters, a single flip switch (my version) and hot coffee.
3) Considering the reviews this thing gets (Cooks, etc) i don't go out buying different coffee makers every couple of years wondering if they make a difference in taste (which i probably couldn't tell anyways with crappy florida tap water and I'm too lazy to grind beans and stuff)

That said they're pretty darn expensive and I got an ebay deal on one. I use keurig during day and buy the kkups at sams'.

I use a cuisinart. Has a auto grind a brew feature. I love this coffee pot. To me I like to keep it simple. I do not like the baseplates that heat up... firehazard... I would love to get into the espresso repair business.

I have a Keurig for a quik "Cup and Go" during the week.
And a Bloomfield for the weekend and when family-friends are over.
The Bloomfield has a warmer on top to keep a second pot hot while brewing.

Keurig here. Anyone that i have had over and drank a cup has said that the coffee is strong but tasty and thats using the light or medium roasts. And these people had no idea that it was a keurig that made it.

I have a Krups filter machine with an insulated metal jug. Very easy to use and clean and uses a standard filter. I switch between Italian Coffee (Illy or Lavazza) in the summer to American in the winter (Starbucks). I need 3 or 4 before I fully wake up.

We have a Keurig and its fine for solo cups of coffee, but the K-cups get real expensive real fast (about .50 each) and you can't 'warm up' your cup. Don't get sucked in by the little screen cup you can fill with own grounds.. nasty results. A lot of people wind up with both the keurig and a traditional drip coffeemaker for the weekends or when you'll be serving a lot of coffee. Just my 2 cents, but it didnt take long after we purchased ours to realize we were spending about 60$ a month on K-cups...

I have a Senseo and absolutely love it. IMO, the coffee is a lot better than the Keurig and it brews a little stronger. Unfortunately the pods that fit it are getting harder to find.

I buy whatever Walmart has on the shelf cheapest when mine dies. The cheapest ones last me about 5 years before something breaks. Why pay more? The cheap ones make coffee for me 365 days a year.

I prefer the convenience of a Bunn, with the reservoir of preheated water it will make 12 cups much more quickly than any of the others can heat the the same amount of water.
I had one for 10 years before the switch went out and I replaced it with another Bunn, which is now on it's 5th year. At $10 a year they are likely cheaper than the lower priced makers that take "forever" to make a pot of coffee.

For regular filter coffee pot machine, the krupps, technivorm and cuisinart are all good.

I had a krupps, till I went expresso coffee. I really spent the some money on a jura with the built in grinder.

For the best single cup coffee. Nespresso is way better then the Keurig.

Those Technivorm machines will make a serious cup of coffee...as long as you feed it good beans.

I had a few cups of coffee made from those things and they were quite impressive, but at the same time i was sitting in a coffee shop that imports some of the best beans in the world and these are the only makers that they use. Starbucks can go pound sand!:D

I bet if the put a few scoops of the freeze dried Folgers stuff in there it would taste like the best crappiest cup of coffee ever.

The way i see it, good coffee is relatively easy to achieve and its not worth suffering through bad coffee. I apply the same thinking to my mattress. If im gonna spend 1/3 of my life asleep on a bed, its gonna be damn comfy so i spent a little more for a quality mattress.

Buy the best WHOLE beans that you can afford. If you want to splurge, check out La Mill Coffee online and place an order.

Grind you beans in a burr grinder, not a high speed spice blender. The burr grinder make the grinds uniform size.

Use an ultra fine metal mesh filter. Paper ones will **** up the oils as the water passes through. I think Swiss Gold makes them for many different models of coffee makers. Some coffee makers even have these as standard equipment. Mine did out of the box.

Filtered water. Simple as that.

If you go with this advise, you can make excellent coffee with any cheapo maker. For many years i used one of those Gevalia makers that was free with a purchase of Gevalia coffee. When the carafe broke, i bought a Bunn or Krups and it brews great coffee. Trust me when i say the coffee maker is irrelevant.

Great coffee comes form filter water, very important with heavy chorine water, and good beans. And the proper freshly grind beans for the taste you are looking for. Once you go to buying whole beans with a machine that has a grinder, going back to pre package grind coffee is a let down.

So if you are not looking to invest in the more expensive beans. And just getting canned grinded. Skip the coffee grinder machines.

Has making a cup of coffee become that complicated? What is the "regular coffee" ..is there irregular coffee?
What operating system do the new machines use MAC, Linux or Windows?
Don't buy too hasty the new I-maker may be out soon
There are APPS. for your I-phone.http://iphone.appstorm.net/roundups/lifestyle-roundups/10-must-have-iphone-apps-for-coffee-lovers/
I think you can get your own personal Barista. Some machines may require a journeyman Barista to operate or at least some formal training.

I'm not a coffee sophisticate. I don't think I've ever had a cup of coffee from Starbucks or any of the $4 a cup places (great marketing BTW). I have had a Krups coffee maker that my wife got as a door prize and it is not so good for ordinary coffee. We had some other fancy one in the past, but I don't remember what kind it was. Anyhow, I'll second, third or forth the el Cheapo Mr. Coffee from where ever. I use mine every morning, make "9" cups and it'll process that in the time it takes me to walk to the front yard and get the paper. For me it's just fine and it was, I think, $9.99 on sale at KOHL'S . You can't go too far wrong for that kind of money and if you do just pitch it and get something fancier (not necessarily better).

Actually the best coffee maker in the world can no longer be bought. It is called the Clover. It was developed by dudes who went to Stanford and it cost.... $11'000. It made such a perfect cup of coffee that Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz bought the company after having tasted the coffee it produced. He was so afraid that his competitors would be able to brew such amazing coffee it would put them out of business.

The clover can be found in several Starbucks but if you want a truly amazing cup of joe find a local coffee shop that owns one and brews high end coffee not ****** Starbucks coffee through it.

If you want a nice one, albeit more expensive, I would go with the Bunn. Around 100 bucks.

If you want a cheap one just go with the familiar old Mr. Coffee.

The coffee maker is secondary. What is fundamenal is that you buy 100% Colombian Coffee ! The best coffee in the World !

I agree, but make that 100% Colombian Supremo. I like a medium roast. The water is also more important than the coffee maker! If you have good tap water, that's fine, just filter out any chlorine.

I use a french press and grind it when I make, with a burr grinder of course! The best temp for making coffee is 204-205*F. I live at 4450 feet elevation and water boils at very near that temperature. And, the only thing I add to my coffee is water and heat!

I grew up on Folgers and Maxwell House and could go back if I really had to, but would give up coffee if I had to switch to Starbucks! That said, I found these little packets of Starbucks instant coffee that I tried on my last backpacking trips. It tasted like instant coffee, but, it was easy, convenient, and light weight!

I'm so glad I just smoked the pot in college and never drank the coffee.

One day I just decided, no more doobage. And that was that.

But a dozen years later and the coffee addicts are hooked more than ever.

Victory is mine! Pungent, low viscosity human lubricant be damned!

We have one of those 1 Hitters. Good for gotta go in a Hurry "Call in to Work" Coffee.
We where given this Machine last year, and i highly recommend it. I like the fact, that if you decide to make more, just make more, it adds to what is already on board. Works good for when neighbors, friends stop over on weekend mornings.
