recommendation of air compressor switch

I have a 5hp TSN45 IR air compressor. I damaged the pressure switch moving it.

I'd appreciate recommendations for a replacement. Should I just buy the IR replacement or get something else? I've heard Condor pressure switches are good, higher end compressors say they use them - but I can't find a Condor pressure switch for single phase, dual pole that says it can handle a 5hp motor?

Thanks

Does your compressor have a magnetic starter or is the motor connected directly to the switch?

Buy the exact IR replacement, or the newer IR part, for your compressor.

Have a look on Amazon & choose whichever 175psi pressure switch which matches your configuration so you don't have to do any extra plumbing.

Condor/Hubbell/square d

There are a few more expensive pressure switches with heavier duty contacts but at that point you would be better getting a magnetic starter to take the load and use your switch to signal it on and off. Your compressor likely has a thermally protected motor & definitely safety release valves in the event the pressure switch fails and leaves the compressor running so that's why they get away with running cheaper switches

I would buy the IR replacement for the simple fact that it is what their engineers specified for the compressor and a "better" switch won't improve performance. It might be different if the original failed instead of being damaged

I think the IR switches are 3-4x the cost though and more then likely same switch different sticker

This would tick all your notches at a fraction of the cost just double check the plumbing arrangement to make sure you don't create extra work, pretty sure your IR will use a 1/4 compression fitting for the unloader which looks like it is included and whatever ports you need if they have a safety valve and sometimes an elbow with a gauge there

Thanks - you are correct, it looks like the IR branded switch is a bit over $100 - about 3-4x the one linked above.
I'll take a careful look at the one on the machine to see what options I have

You could probably use the Condor. It's a quality part but it's only rated for 3hp motors (1ph, 240v). Square D also looks to be 3hp max. The IR part does claim to support 5hp motors. The risk with trying the under rated Condor part is the contacts could weld closed. The switch claims it can handle 26A so perhaps Condor is being conservative with their motor ratings.

Sure, but if you look at basically ANY other 2stage "5hp" compressor that doesn't come with a magnetic starter they all have the same Condor/Condor clone pressure switch.

They also all have thermally protected motors and safety unloader valves in the event the pressure switch welds itself shut

If it makes you feel better look for the best price on this on:

Made by furnas or Hubbell(not Ingersoll Rand but you can see all you are missing is the sticker)

I just replaced a Hubbel SW on my compressor because of its poor design. Tightening the cover ever so slightly would change the darn pressure setting. The captured nut is inset to the contactor frame. Tightening the cover would pull on the frame and setting would change.

I went with Square D 9013 series. They have a good page to help determine the switch you need.

The orange bar on the page that says Help Me Choose is a good link to help ya narrow down the models.

This is how I damaged mine in first place. lifting strap slipped and went against cover of pressure regulator. I thought it looked ok but it didn’t shut down at pressure.
