Recommendations for a 12" sliding compound miter saw?

Thanks everyone, going with the Bosch.

I need a new miter saw. I have a HF(old red one) that has served me okay for 8 years. But I need to upgrade. I have mostly dewalt tools and don't have an issue with them, but I am seeing mixed reviews on their models. Mostly model number shenanigans. That, and I could've bought a DWS779(older model) from home depot over winter for half the cost they are now and foolishly didn't.

Really, the main thing I am looking for is double bevel. I could care less if it has a laser etc.. a decent size adjustable fence would be nice. Any suggestions under $500?

I bought a Makita 12”. I’m really happy with it. I’d recommend buying from a actual hardware store. I found the big box stores to be selling open boxed items, which I imagine are returns, meaning the possibility of abuse or missing parts.

The Hercules at Harbor Freight is a decent saw.

I have the dewalt 12" double compound, works good & they're around 500$. The key is setting it up right, once dialed in it stays put.

The Bosch Glide in a 12" is normally 599 I believe but comes down to 550 at times on sale. I have had it for 6 or 7 years and love it, biggest advantage to me is the lack of rails sticking out in the back taking up extra space. If 500 is a hard cap I would look hard at the 10" version, I dont think I have ever actually needed the extra capacity of the 12" vs the 10" and it then fits in tighter spaces and is lighter...but all usage and needs differ so you may need the 12"

I just started looking at that. Do you have one? Supposed to be comparable to the dewalt dws780. Really don't want to think about spending $400 on a HF electronic(although I have yet to have an issue with a belt sander and the Chicago miter)

What model? From what I know the newer 779 is completely different from the older 779(I believe it was the same as the 780 minus the laser)

I will second the bosch glider if you can afford it. I have two and after setting them up right they are amazing saws. I did a ton of research and from what I found they are 2nd place to the 1500 kapex. I've had mine for around 5 years and love the thing. I did have to do some adjusting, which is expected from any saw you buy. But after I got everything dialed in the thing is amazing.

The cap isn't completely set at $500. I will take a look at the bosch. I already have a 10" compound(not a slider) my 12" has come in handy a lot on thicker stock whereas a 10" wouldn't have been able too. Plus I still have 3 unused blades.

Do you have a menards? If so they have 11 percent off. So it shows 577 after rebate for the 12". That's what I have and what I would recommend.

Closest menards is 2hrs away. I am looking into the bosch as I write this. How is yours as far as precision? Seems to be mixed reviews on how straight it cuts(fully extended on large cuts) due to the arm mechanism. Not that I would be using this to make such large precise cuts. Just curious if you have noticed issues?

I've used my Glide a lot over the past 7 ish years...0 problems with accuracy and I checked it when new fairly frequently. I installed several when they were new into a production environment for work, used probably 50 cuts per day in applications where accuracy of cut angle mattered and we had 0 issues on those 2 saws in that first year after which I bought mine.

And I hear mixed results, but HD and Lowes will sometimes match the Menards 11%...think there is a special website for HD...maybe someone else can chime in on that

Bosch Glide sort out the accuracy issues? Its been years since I have looked into it, but I know it was a thing.

I like Bosch, but in this field you should also check out Makita and Hitachi's rail system.

And industry standard is Dewalt, basic, effective, durable.

All except the Dewalt feature either a zero or 50% reduced footprint (ie the rail push behind the machine). Important if wall clearance is a thing.

Installed a Ridgid 10" slider in a shop, I think it required 42" for a full extension!

I haven't had any issues. When I first got it I took the time to make sure it was accurate and do any adjustments needed. I adjusted the glider mechanism so it was tight and didn't have any play in it. I also adjusted the squareness. This was several years ago and I have mine on a ridgid mobile base and throw it in the bed of my track or in my enclosed trailer where it bounces around and haven't had nay issues with accuracy.

Home depot will match menards 11% if you have a menards in your area. They do have a website, I just google home depot 11% and it pops up. Enter your info and a gift card will be on it's way. Easier then menards where you have to mail the stuff in.

Lowes will not match a rebate. When I asked them they said they don't match rebates but will give me a discount and gave me 10% off for military discount. Even though I'm not a vet. I explained to them that this wasn't matching 11% rebate and that I wasn't a vet and I shouldn't be getting that discount. I've never asked them again because if that's how they have to do it then I don't want it because I don't deserve that discount.
