Anyone have a recommendation for a benchtop drilll press under $300?

I had a Delta bench top drill press about 25 years ago. Whatever you get, make sure you bolt it down VERY securely to a stand or bench top. They can fall over easily otherwise.

I sold the bench top drill press and bought a full sized Delta drill press before too long.

An old delta, walker turner, craftsman, atlas, powermatic, clausing or the like.

Which side are you on?

I agree. I have early 50s Delta Homecraft DP110 which is an excellent press for it's size. I also have a late 50s Craftsman 150 floor standing unit that is wonderful. I have had a Craftsman 100 in the past as well. I haven't paid more than $100 for any of them and all have been in working condition when purchased. I bought a brand new Craftsman bench top model about 8 years ago when I first started building stuff at home. It never worked particularly well for drilling metal, and I just recently gave it away to my father-in-law. The older ones just work better.

Don't. Get a floor drill press. Hardly any more expensive, and do you really have the room on your workbench?!

Ok, I guess I'll start combing Craigslist.

Currently working in Illinois, but have a place in Wisconsin that I hope to retire to in the next 5 years.

Wish that were true for humans too.

Your right, I have a need for a small press in the next 2 months, but I'll end up with a floor unit eventually, might as well start where I"ll eventually end up.
