Recommendations for a new box

So this is my current box and I think I've grown out of it. Pretty much all my drawers are full. I'm curious as to it's actually worth. I'm wondering what you all might recommend for a replacement in something that's wider, that I can put a nice work surface of some sort on top to complement my bench.

I'm not necessarily partial to any name brand but I'd rather stay away from Costco and Harbor Freight. I think $1500 to $2000 would be my max.

Check craiglist for used Snap On boxes. The best made and hold up well over time. One can often find these boxes 1/3 - 1/4 off the retail price when new.

Your box is $200-300. Doubt you would get more and thinking closer to $200. What were you hoping for?
For new stuff....skipping HF and Costco that pretty much leaves the only decent moderately priced boxes out. Sound like the the strictly toolboxes higher end imports may be for you. Of course used makes a hell of alot more sense.

Why don't you consider MAC side/end boxes or a top box that match that box? That is a excellent box and IMHO newer boxes made by all mfgs are being made cheaper and with less quality.

Any chance you could find another identical box and mate them side by side?

My first rollaround (around 1975) was a MAC similar to yours. When it got full I started looking for options but soon decided I wasn't going to spend mega bucks for a bigger one. Luckily I found an identical box used, good shape and very reasonably priced. At the time Snap-On had a plate to replace 2 of the wheels on each box to join them together (I think they have been discontinued). Most of the guys in the shop called me crazy, but it worked for me. I still have it. I have also picked up a third identical box with the intentions of going 3 wide. If I ever get around to it (it's on my bucket list) I will build a complete frame under all three boxes as I don't think the center box would take the strain of a clear span that length.
I think I have less than $800 in all three boxes and the plates, but you need to remember this was done in the late 70's-early 80's.

+1 for keeping that box. whatever you'll get, i bet you'll miss those 'thin' drawers, new boxes don't seem to have them anymore, i don't know why.

2 1/2 inch tall drawers are tall enough to store wrenches upto 1" and 32mmm with the rack

If you do go for a new one, I like these, as they DO have a god mix of shallow and deeper drawers with a full width one on top, good for lots of sockets. Price in in your range too.

If you compare specs (like weight,) to other comparable boxes, this one has the beef, (and they actually advertise the gauge of metal used and where...) instead of the Marketing BS of "High strength steel" or similar...

IMO square inches of drawer space count far more then "cubic inches" (When did the maroons in marketing decide we were buying engines instead of tool boxes...), so do the math before deciding. And look at what you have for tools and think about how they would go into a new configuration. Also think wrench racks and pliers racks as without them you waste a lot of space.
