I need a new vise in the shop in the $50 to $60 range. What do y'all recommend?

I recommend you increase your budget at least 5X if you want a decent "new" vise.

Or start the long gradual search for a classic used USA vise on CL, Ebay, G-sales, etc.

$50-60 will only get you the most primitive Chinese vise at HF if you want new. However it might tide you over until you find a great used vise.

Buy Craftsman Pro Vise.

$149 sometimes less. I saw some at my local Sears.

I recommend an old vise. Check out the GJ classifieds, I think some members are selling some there. For that price range, the old iron will be much better than the new Chinese stuff.

Buy a good working used vise off CL. They're usually inexpensive and last forever if taken care of.
