Recommendations for a tool chest w/ drawers

I have a only a few tools, don't need a 26" roller or let alone a 41" chest

i had for many years a red 3 drawer toolbox with friction slides and lots of rust.

i've been wanting something nicer, and i see that most have equal size drawers, but i'm looking for one with a larger bottom drawer

however the price is a put off, i'm looking for something higher quality and with ball bearing slides.

can anyone help me out ? my cursory looks have revealed no takers.

You can find good deals on Craigslist. I sold a Snap-On bottom, center and top that (I think about 26") for about 250.00. I bought a 56' top and bottom box with two 18 inch full length side cabinets from Extreme tool for 900 bucks on CL and it was like new. My personal opinion is Mac makes the best. I see you want small, you can find some old tanks in nice condition used that will probably be better than new cheap tin can. I think a 40 dollar box would be flimsy.

i need a portable box, a roller would drive me nuts

i don't have a garage, and probably won't have one for a long time. I have to lug my tools out of the house to the car , or where ever i'm working at. A 26" chest is too big, a box the size of the one i linked in the original post is about perfect.

Craigslist here is crazy, might as well buy new.

I don't want the 40$ box, i simply posted the link as a guide to what i want, a similar box but a higher quality one.

At your pricepoint and size specs it best to checkout Home Depot, Lowes or Sears and just wait for decent sale. Lots of folks are usually upgrading from these smaller tool chests so don't give up too quick.

Should get a clean one off ebay for $150-200. You won't believe how great they are built and how thick the metal is. I just got one on Friday off eBay for 50 bucks that needs work. It was local pick up so I did not have to pay shipping

picked this vintage CM up at a flea mkt a few years ago for $12.

if you look around you'll find older CM boxes like this one, kennedy or CM cantilever boxes fairly cheap.

i can load it up with enough stuff it's hard to move around...

60's - 70's era CM boxes were well built, not like the lightweight stuff thats been around for the past 15-20 years..

Crewchief brings up a good point (as usual). A cantilever box may be better for you, especially with your deep bottom requirement. I've switched to a cantilever for most of my portable work. You can fit a ton of tools in a cantilever box quantity and weight wise which can be a double edged sword at times.

Try craigslist in your area.. Or if your Facebook has swap shop in your area. There is a cm in my area for 40.. Top and bottom 9 drawer unit..

my kennedy cantilever does even have tools in it, (i use it for a few spare parts for my offroad truck), and it's a PITA to get into the back of my pickup.

when my service truck was down, i've loaded the CM 3 drawer with enough tools to take care of basic tool needs for a few days at work.
