Going to be punching a hole through the drywall and converting the space under my staircase for storage. I will drywall the whole interior, but I am not sure what would best lighting solution?

It doesnt need extensive lighting coverage, but whats the suggestions?

LED Pucks sound the simplest, but coverage may not be as great?

Sounds good - LED pucks sound the simplest as I can just get a wire ready and mount the Junction box ahead of it.
Anybody have any "recommendations" for LED pucks that are tried and true?

How much light do you need in a storage closet? Just get some of those battery powered puck lights unless running 120 volts is really easy. They make relatively low profile 120 volt LED closet lights that either screw into a light socket (they cover the light socket), or they can be hard wired.

I really like the 12 volt DC LED tape lights for locations where you can put the tape someplace you can’t see it directly. I have them inside many of my cabinets they come on when you open the doors. They are power with an AC adaptor.

I really like IKEA's LED cabinet lights etc. and have use quite a few of them. The cabinet lights with a sensor turn on when the door is opened, and off when closed. Super slick...and not expensive.

You'd need these three bits. Note that they have quite a few LED options with sensors aside from the first one I listed. One very nice touch here that they don't seem to advertise is that the LED driver has a zigbee radio onboard so integrates out of the box with their wireless switches, or can be connected to an automation system (or both!). I have 30-40 IKEA lights of various styles all integrated with our Hubitat automation hub. Around $50 (USD) all in. All the IKEA LED bits are pretty much rock solid.

I put an under cabinet light in our pantry, it has a motion sensor, that you wave your hand to turn it on. Wife liked it so well, added the same light to the spare closet too.

Battery powered puck light attached via velcro tape. If you need light looking for something, pull it off the wall and you have a handheld light. I use the 2 hi/lo/off switch kind in our closets without power.

Same. Two rows of LED tape do a fantastic job of lighting up my kitchen sink. Great stuff for oddball places.
