Recommendations for metal cabinets that are medium height?

Hi all -

Time to install some storage to the newly remodeled garage! I am looking for something sturdy, preferably metal. However, I'm not going to be storing a lot of heavy gear or tools. It will mostly be camera equipment which is more delicate but not particularly heavy or dirty, etc.

I am starting to consider a cheaper option i.e. MDF or even Ikea, but it would be great to get something a bit stronger.

Here's my problem: because of the arrangement of the room and window placement, I can't fit one of the bit 72 inch locker-style cabinets. And, the 30 to 36 inch floor cabinets are nice but I am hoping for more storage than that.

Has anyone seen any products that are, say, 50 inches? I know I've seen stuff like this, but I can't seem to find it. Anything between around 42 and 60 inches could work well. If NewAge made a 50 inch version of their BOLD cabinets I'd buy it right away :)

thanks!! Dave

@ that height, you have to look at Lista or similar. For camera equipment, I find it easier and safer to store in drawers than shelves.

I use a gun safe to store mine but I got a Lista cabinet I'm gonna use for camera equipment.

Good thing you're in Denver if your cameras are going in the garage - otherwise you'd need to be looking at a dry cabinet.

Finding something 50" tall in metal that isn't very expensive is probably going to be difficult unless you get lucky on Craigslist.

Back in my video days we used cabinets sort of like that. The tall space is good for storing tripods and light kits, and since most people don't use the big cameras any more that cabinet would work just fine for whatever cameras you're into. You don't need anything more sturdy than that unless you're looking to store some old 60 pound Betacam rig.

I agree that would be enough, but boy those Closetmaid products look like they should stay in the closet! I am hoping to find something a little nicer to look at than that. I will probably also need legs that can level since I have an ordinary pitched concrete slab in the garage.

There are 50 inch curio cabinets out there that look nice, but they tend to be around 2 grand new. Maybe you could find a used one?

How about file cabinets, 4 drawer are about that high. If depth is an issue you could use the lateral style.

+1 on the lateral files, used ones are a bargain. Lockable, not flimsy, heavy duty construction can hold a lot of weight, easy to open and close even when heavily loaded, easy access to full width of drawer, easy to sell if you change your mind. Comes in different sizes. Worth a look.

I just got 2 steelcase 36" wide 24 "deep 60" tall cabinets, they have a clothes rod across the top to hang clothes in, but also some adjustable shelves. No idea on cost or availability, as these were a "free" find

I can look for model numbers when I get home, but these are one of the cost a lot when new, but used should be a good value.
