Looking for an affordable air compressor for an upcoming project. I plan on putting up some fiber cement panel siding using a framing / roofing nailer. I’d also like the compressor to be used for some automotive and painting applications. Impact wrench, paint sprayer, spraying the underbody of the car with rust preventative coating (woolwax), etc

HF has a new 20 gallon compressor. With a coupon it’s about $165. Link below. Any opinions on this compressor?

Any recommendations on an affordable compressor? Less than $200 if possible. Thanks

My HF compressor is almost 20 yrs old now. No issues. If you just need one for limited use I think that would be fine.

Stick with one that is oil-lubed. It will last longer.

The things you will NOT be able to run a cut off wheels, sanders, die grinders and sand blaster.

PSI CFM is your only factor for knowing what you can run, like wizard mentions.

Look into the newer style of "silent" small compressors, just as good as a crappy old oil lubed pancake at 1/4 the decibels.

Painting with 20g.... 3hp.... whatever is going to be a challenge see above.

Good smaller compressors:

Makita MAC series (lubed and quiet)
HF Ultra Quiet line (cheap)
Kobalt Silent line (still exist?)
California Air (the og)

Get one that is belt drive unless going to Beltone to get a hearing aid was in your future plans anyway. The direct drive type are typically 747 loud. I have a 25 gallon belt drive Sanborn that I've had since 1994 and it's nice and quiet.
