I live about 45 miles south of Montgomery, AL and need some recommendations for pole barn builders. I sent a request to Morton but they don't travel this far down south. I have found several builders on Facebook but I'm not sure about there quality. It's usually just a couple of guys and some hired help. I want to build either a 30x48x12 or a 40x60x12 with a man door, 2 10x10 roll up doors located on the eave side with concrete reinforced by rebar. Probably throw in some windows as well.

Any dealings with builders in my area?

With my location do I need insulation under the flooring? If so insulation then plastic then rebar and concrete? Also insulation thickness? No radiant floor heating.

House wrap between the girts and metal and also the purlins and metal? Not sure what kind of insulation I will go with yet.

I'm sure I'll have more questions.

No insulation needed under the concrete, but you will want a moisture barrier.

I'm in North AL so I cant help with any specific recommendations on builders for you, but I did find my builder on facebook. Look over their build photos, you should be able to find some they have built close to you, contact the owners I'm sure you can find one that would let you inspect the work the builder did. Or at least it would be easy to find out if they were happy with the work and way he did business.

I did not insulate under the floor. I don't think you gain anything if you aren't going to do in floor heating this far south. I just did the vapor barrier under the slab. Insulation in mine is the bubble wrap foil and it is between the exterior metal and the wood posts. I have room for fiberglass if I decide to close in and finish the walls.

I have a neighbor that just had one finished and I'll check his out. I think the company he went with is higher than the Facebook builders I've found but they may be worth the extra cost. I'll hold off on floor insulation then and just do a vapor barrier. Does the bubble insulation do much? I'll probably go with fiber batts. Wood trusses or metal ag trusses on yours?

I live in Alabama close to the Gulf so I am not sure who to use that far north but I can tell you who not to use...I hired a guy last year Jeff Register with register metals and have seen him advertise close to Birmingham...very shady after starting and crappy work he was fired on 2nd day and completed the project myself.

Yeah he advertises on Craigslist and has a location in Highland Home some of his guys work out of. Glad you gave me the info though as I have read some other bad reviews on him out of Mississippi.

yes sir...no problem I had a buddy use him with no issues but his was just a roof system. he lied to me about a few things and price was about 6k more than he quoted originally. Dixie Supply offers kits if you wish to assemble yourself or have a contractor assemble. don't think they provide service that far north.

I've only had the building a month, so I cant give much real life testimonial yet. It should act as a vapor barrier and a radient barrier from the metal on top of whatever R value it gives. the seems overlap and are taped.

My neighbor has the same and his building is a few years old, he claims to be very happy with it and that it (the bubble insulation) made a big difference during the summers.

My shop is 30'wide x 32'deep with wood trusses.

I just had a 40x60x16 built by trinity metals out of Dothan I believe. My building is a red iron, but the installer did mention he does pole barns. Not sure about the company. Very happy with the service I got.

I was gonna do house wrap up top but may do the bubble insulation instead. Gonna do some research on it. Both truss types are available with metal being more popular. I feel like if I go wood I need to go 14' in case I get a 2 post lift. The metal ones don't have the low bottom cord so I would have more clearance.
