Recommended Compressed Air Blow gun?

Hello GJ,

Over the holiday weekend I was cleaning up after a wood working project with my HF blow gun. I unhooked the air hose and tossed it on my bench, causing it to slide off and fall to the floor.

Now whenever I hook it up the air line to it there is a constant stream of air. It worked great for a few years, but I am looking to upgrade to something nicer as I use it quite frequently for cleaning up after projects.

I'm looking to spend 20-30 bucks for a new blow gun, and some multi-functionality would be nice, meaning having the ability to quickly change out nozzles.

So GJ,

How should I spend my money?

John

My most used blow gun is an Amflo 201 with a rubber tip. I zip tied it to a magnet, so it's always within reach. I really can't say that I've found the need to ever change tips.

I've owned several HF blow guns, and they just don't hold up.

If your shop air pressure is high and unregulated, you might want to look at a regulated blow gun.

My favorite is called a typhoon, got it from the Mac dealer but they are available online. Works great, moves a ton of air even with low compressor output.

I have two of the typhoon brand guns, I like them. Surprisingly quiet for how much air they move with the OSHA nozzle. And well made :)

I don't know about changing nozzles quickly, I imagine you could leave them on hand tight, and still be able to remove them without tools.

As already suggested by the Cobbler, "Milton"

I have several brands and types of air tools, fittings, blow pencils etc. My favorite and the standard has always been Milton. BTW, while you're at it get a Milton tire gauge, the one that fits in a shirt pocket. This is a badge that marks the best of service station grease monkeys and such.

You're welcome.

With a budget of $30 just buy a few of 'em so you don't have to waste time swapping nozzles.

But not the S-160. Will pinch your finger all the time. Dumb design.

I am a fan of Guardair and Coilhose air guns. I post them quite often in the amazon Deals Non Tool Thread.

I have several with different ends and wands. Some simply collected, don't get stuck on budget. You might not need to spend that much for each. Flea mkt have good selection but this is also a good place to exercise mechanic skills to fix the one you have.

I like the CEJN 208 blowgun for most of my air manifolds (workbench, reloading bench, portable tank, and N tank in the computer area). It delivers variable pressure depending on how much you squeeze the handle, from a light pfft to the full pressure of your regulator. At my main manifold, though, I use a GuardAir blaster. That's where I keep my reel and all other air tools. Also nice to have is the Acme Deluxe blowgun kit. It comes with a handle and over a dozen different tips. You'll probably find it cheaper than at the link I posted.

I have had surprising luck with the cheap-o's from Home Depot. I bought 3 or 4 of them and put one next to each of my hose reels to use when needed in that section of shop. I did have 1 break when I dropped it but Home Depot replaced it without hassle at all. The others have been great with regular use over the last 9 months or so.

I love this site! So many options to explore!

Thanks again GJ for the awesome suggestions. I'll be continuing to mull over my decision until Epstein day.

Here's another really nice blow gun. You'll have to order from Ebay or Amazon Japan.

The only problem is that the Japanese like to use British Whitworth pipe threads vs NPT and if you get the male coupler already attached it's an oddball style.

The adapter hassle can be worth it since it's a really nice product.

Tooltopia has the Vacula 4" Full Flow Blowgun with 3 Rubber Tips Part No: 72-020-8013. Will a small compressor like my Makita MAC700 handle intermittent use blow cleaning the garage and cars with a full flow gun? MAC700 does 40 PSI at 3.8 CFM and at 90 PSI 3.3 CFM and has 50 percent duty cycle.
Also orders the Milton S 153 but want a pistol grip and rubber tips for blowing out inside of cars and other delicate areas.

In a mad moment of complete fed-up-ness with cheap blow guns, I went
and bought the Facom V.999a... It is probably the most ridiculously expensive
Blow gun I've ever seen (around $40 usd) ... However... The thing is a work of art.

You should be fine. Do you plan on using the blow gun for multiple minutes straight? Or just 5-15 second bursts?

Short bursts 5-15 seconds of blowing off sawdust, water out of mirrors after washing car, those kinds of things. Also, have an S-153 coming and some Milton air tool oil so I can blow in a few drops of tool oil into the guns once in a while.

Like that Facom V.999a. Tooltopia has a chrome-plated Acme A681CS. And someone out there must have a gold plated air gun!

FYI Tooltopia has the Vacula blowgun on sale for $13.99 not sure how many they have or how long the sale is.

I got the Valuca kit with the 3 rubber tips after reading this thread. It's an excellent blowgun at 45 PSI it's putting out a lot of air and my MAC700 can keep up with intermittent use. At 90 PSI it drops the tank almost immediately. Airflow at 45 PSI is plenty for me and I didn't expect the MAC700 to run blowguns at 90 PSI. With a larger compressor and 100 percent duty cycle you might be able to blow the 3 little pigs brick house down!

I also got the Milton S153 and happy with it too. May be putting out a little less air but like it as a general use blow gun for cleaning off the workbench and bugs and webs off the walls.

Another vote for the Milton S153. I've had one for a 5+ years and it still looks great. Low cost also.
Whatever you choose, get one with a rubber tip if it'll be anywhere near a car. Eventually you will hit something you didn't mean to.
