Do you need to use actual 'compressor oil' or will regular non-detergent 20 or 30 weight oil work in my compressor (older late 1960's vintage Ingersoll-Rand two stage pump)? I have a bunch of Mobil 1 sitting around and also some GTX synthetic oil. Any thoughts on how they'd work?

I've read good things about AMSOIL Synthetic Compressor Oil. If I end-up rebuilding my compressor, I'd consider using it.

For what it's worth, I have run Mobil Rarus 427 Compressor Oil for many years due mainly to the fact that that's what they use where I work.
Yes, equipment wears out but nothing to really point towrads oil failure with using that.

Synthetic is usually the top lubricant choice though.;)

Out of my mind... Be back soon!
The manual for my Emglo states that compressor oil is preferred over motor oil, will let the compressor last longer, and doesn't need to be changed as frequently. Considering all the more oil they take, I just went with compressor oil.
