The Wera are very good, and not super expensive.

I have Bondhus also, bang for buck wise they're pretty much the winner.

Any one of the sets you list will do fine. One of the more proper names is 'hex key'.

The wiha set is really nice. I especially like the finish and ease of removing them from the holder. Other than that, they're hex keys and they all work the same to me. Do the wiha ones "work" better than my old craftsmans? No, but they sure are nicer and easier to get to!

what the finish on the wiha gives you is keys that do not rust like my old cman keys and the none coated keys. The wera are nice also. The plastic coat they put one are pretty good, but their stainless steel ones are really nice.

Monte, do you know anything about availability of the additional sets you picture in the tools from the old world thread?

I can vouch for the plain jane Bondhus L-handle hex's. I had one of the smaller ones bending pretty good with a mini snipe/cheater on the end of it. One of the tiny hex set screws on my Harley's head bolt covers were seized and snapped 2 no name China minutes before.

The China stuff was brittle, the Bondhus flexed and bounced back to the original shape.

I would not want the set with the round shank because when the tool wears out or the ball breaks off there is no way to grind it back and put it back into use. I have many times had to cut a hexkey short and with the round shank you also remove that possibility.

Just my opinion

Those are chrom-moly.

FWIW Bondhus is claiming more strength using their special steel alloys

http://www.bondhus.com/metallurgy/body-1.htm

Not that it probably makes any difference both are good, but the Bondhus are made here and cheaper. I went with Bondhus, got the brite-guard finshed ball hex keys, and am really happy with them.

Bondus goldguard. It's all I use, and have been using for a few years now. Heck, my most used keys look almost new, and i've had to really crank on them sometimes when we take apart older machinery.

$22 for both sets.

Love em. and no rust whatsoever. I know the sets don't go that big, but you can just order singles if you need them. I rarely come across anything above 3/8.

The the wiha has the slighter nicer finish. Between the 2 it a tough pick, I like both sets. I personal would go with the chrome finish. The wera is slightly longer, giving you more leverage. So it is a tough call between the 2.

Thank you. I appreciate the direct comparison between these two sets. It seems that the Wiha has the nicer opening and closure system, though the Wera has better size labeling.

I've decided to buy the Wera set over the Wiha set because the Wera keys are well labelled; I hope the sizing doesn't wear off. I prefer the stainless of the Wiha set and the case is nice, but each individual key of the Wera set is labelled and easy to read.
