I am looking for this style, with the zero offset 12 point (or 6 point) on one end and the wrenching end on the other, in XL or Extra long size.

Any recommendations?

Some ive found:

Gear wrench (85988)
Matco (SGRBZXLM102)
Britools (RRXLSET12)

I have the gearwrench flex head version, they are spline and I am not convinced that I like them. I may end up going back to the non flex just to get 12 point again. The splines seem to grab too much, almost to the point of destroying the fastener for any other socket or wrench. To be fair I have been using them on some rusty stuff. I love the deep box end, they are very nice for brake bleeders and other tight quarters things.

I have the regular, non-flexhead, 12pt (not spline, not 120XP) GearWrench Gearbox XL sets in SAE and Metric, and absolutely love the things.

I've seen a number of "buy the metric, get the SAE free" deals from various Internet dealers over the past year or three.

Edited to add: http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/KDT-85988C.html

Buy the 12-piece Metric (8mm-19mm), get the 9-piece SAE (5/16 - 3/4) free. $164.96 plus whatever shipping charge there is. Use coupon code N05 to get $5 off $100.

Looking at things, is the Matco set just a rebranded gearwrench? Either way, I would not pay $300 for a set of them.

A review of the Matco set (part number in the OP) claims they're COO Taiwan, so, yeah, they probably are rebadged GW.

Retail on that set appears to currently be $388.95, and you don't even get the 8mm and 9mm in the GearWrench set (10mm-19mm only).

Ouch.

Would be great if there was a non-spline, flex head version.

Even better would be a 6 point ratcheting end, and a 12 point fixed end.

No need for a 12 point on the ratcheting side if it spins anyways.

But now im just getting into full blown dream land.

YESSSS! I have flank drive plus 12 point combos and non flank drive plus 6 point combos. I also have both styles in my angle wrenches too, some hardware just doesn't deserve to be marked all up. I have no use for gearwrench open ends, they have way too much slop.

I found it! Literally the only company I could find that made them in this style.

Made by Tone of Japan. The set is on sale from 35940 Yen down to 14990 yen right now on Amazon JP (2 sets left).

The set doesn't include all the sizes they carry, I added on a couple to my order.

The second set, although they both seem to have a wide head on the ratchet end? Wtf is up with that, they can't make it flush?

For global fulfillment is actually drops down to 14990 when you put it in your cart and go to checkout.

I think it might have something to do with taxes needing to be displayed in the end price for domestic Japanese sales, and that amount gets taken off for international.

Made the same post in the tools of japan thread, but figured it would go well here for others in the future who pull this thread up:

Got a tone and a KTC flex head, ratcheting double box end wrench (non spline), literally the only two companies that make this sort of thing that I could find.

Kind of a bummer on the KTC front, looks like its made in Taiwan:

Verdict: The tone wrench is much nicer, the fit and finish on it is superior, flex is tighter and the matte finish is very well done.

The chrome on the KTC looks good in pictures, but in person leaves much to be desired. The matte on the TONE on the flip side doesn't look that great in pictures; but looks and feels much better in person.

Both are 72 tooth.

Backdrag is almost non-existent on the Tone, and the lever engages firmly.

Backdrag on the KTC is minimal, but existent, the selector button shows casting seams, but engages well.

Initially, im overall very very impressed by the Tone wrench.

Been using the Tone wrenches for a little while now, impressions are still very positive.

One of my favorite features has surprisingly been the offset ratcheting end. Since its reversible, the protrusion on one end allows for better access in weird access areas.

The only thing I would change would be making the ratcheting end 6 point instead of 12.
