Recommond a floor jack?

Hey guys, I'm new here and trying to start my own mechanic shop (at the age of 22).

I need a floor jack as mine has started to leak. The label is rubbed off after 10 years of usage. So I don't know nothing about it or o-ring and ect.

It use to lift up to 20-22 inches. So I want a jack that can do that. I know its a 3 ton.

I know craftsman are junk.

I've looked in to harbor freight but don't really trust it for safety reason.

You shouldn't trust a jack for safety reasons... You trust your jack stand for that. HF/craftsman/and several other brands are all overseas jacks that work well for some and leak for others. So all depends on how much money you have to work with.

I recently bought a Husky (Home Depot) SUV jack to replace my GM Performance jack. Its actually a Torin jack with the Husky name on it.

The neat thing about it is that it has a 3" extension that goes on the end of it so you can lift larger vehicles (full size trucks and SUVs) easily.

The problem I had on the GM Performance jack was I'd have to jack it up all the way and it couldn't really get my big truck off the ground and I felt like it was unsafe even with the jack stands in place.

I've seen people use the HF racing jacks in shops... my marine mechanic was using it to hold the front of my boat trailer up for a few weeks while he worked on my boat.

The most important thing is having quality jack stands because no matter how good your jack is ... if it fails and you don't have good jack stands... ouch!

You want the best 2-3ton usa made jack out there milwuakee jack has it. Its awsome. I bought a hein werner and it leaked after 2months so i sold it and bought the milwuakee. All I can say is its awsome, hands down the best built jack i"ve seen.

The 5202 is a very good jack. Well made in Spain. We've had one for 3+years of mod/heavy and frequent use in my sons home shop. I think it was about 330.00 to the door at the time.
Very controllable release valve, no leaks, good height and fits under most anything..normal. The rubber wheels have held up very well and are real quiet. Another plus I didn't consider at the time is that it is very gentle to his fancyass epoxy floor now. .
With SUV's etc. he sometimes complains that it could use a couple/three inches more lift height and I see that there is a 2" extension for the saddle available now. We'll probably just weld one up that can be lifted out at some point.
When it arrived from a tool warehouse the rubber saddle pad had gone missing from a hole in the box. I called OTC customer service and they sent one out overnight! No questions asked.
That jack turned out to have been a very good choice.

3.5 Ton jack... AC Delco. Speed lift. If I lift the front frame bar on my 97 F150 and lift to it's fullest height, I can get the tires almost 12 inches off of the ground.

Milwaukee Hydraulic's jacks are th deal I have a Walker a Lincoln and a Milwaukee and it is hands down the best in every way.

Old used Walkers are always a good choice. Fairly frequently found in all the usual places... and dark alleys.
Old HW is stuff you can trust too.
Have to keep eyes open for Orange...and Yellow&Blue.

There are Many searchable threads here at GJ concerning Jacks and there Pro's and Cons. You cant Go wrong with Either Milwaukee, Weaver, Walker, Lincoln or Hein Werner. The New Hein Werners 93642 or 93652 are Walker designed and have used the same hydraulic system for 70+ years. They have stood the test of time and Proven in the Battlefield... Over and over...

I sold many 93642's in a prior life and they were top shelf stuff that you knew would still be quietly doing their job decades down the road.
They were Lincoln 93642 then. Made in St. Louis. I guess they are still technically made in St. Louis.
I guess they paint them Lincoln colors nowadays yet call them Hein Werner.
At the time, the parent company was not Shin fu, Kat su, Shitzu,wong fang or whatever it was last time I knew.
How are they nowadays? Are parts easily available?
When that Chinese company bought them a few years ago I wondered where the seals,cylinders,valves would be made after that.......actually, I didn't wonder.
I hope I'm just wrong and old. Instead of just old.

I have the AC Hydraulic flat-tops, have had them for a long time and still love them. ESCO flat-tops are the current equivalent. Not cheap, but my limbs and life are worth the extra cost. $70 each at pelicanparts.com. There's a curved-saddle version too, $65 each.

Np... I have a Love for Hydraulic Jacks and was mentored from My Grandfather who spent the off season (farmer) rebuilding jacks for over 40 years. Ive been on my own for 20+ years and can remember going to the St.Louis Shop when i was younger and have made many friends over the years bringing there Jacks back to life. Unfortunately its a dying breed and Not a great business for building Clientel as ive seen Many.. many.. many rebuilds last 30+ years (Leather Piston Cups and Older Compression Packing)

Its a Walker/Lincoln, Being its a 2 ton its a YA-642 which is actually a 93642 in disquise with a few subtle changes other than color.

i looked at many reviews before i bought and they were all good. Some said it was a rip off of an old good american brand jack. It is pretty darn low profile as well. Just play around with it in a store and you can tell it's a good sturdy design. All of the other ones felt like ****.

We just bought a new shop jack from there, it's great. It's too bad no one can get the AC Hydraulics jacks anymore. We purchased the low profile AFF one. So far it's been excellent.
