They have already done a warranty exchange on the item, costing them $. Why would they then sell the item for you at 1/2 (or less) price, and provide you with new batteries, and give you the exact same warranty benefits as someone that paid full price for the tools?

The odds of a problem after 1 year are low; each purchaser just has to decide for him or herself if the savings (which can be significant) are worth the "risk" of a shorter warranty.
I've regularly expanded my Milwaukee collection w recon items that I would have otherwise not purchased at full retail. BUT there do tend to be more and better promos on new items of course, so every potential deal is case-by-case.

In my opinion, it would show that no matter new or reconditioned, they stand behind their product. Looking at it from a customer point of view, if I saw 5 year warranty on a new product but only a 1 year warranty on a reconditioned product, it would lower my confidence in it even at half price.
Like Ign said, the odds of needing warranty after 1 year are low so is it really that much more expensive for them to offer the full warranty. Most customers would likely never need to use it.

HD and some others have it at $299. If you can combine with a coupon, promo code or general **% off deal, you can get it for less.
The recons could be anywhere from a couple of months, up to 5 years old when Milwaukee rebuilt them; most recons come from returns on warranty, so putting a 5 year warranty on a unit that might be 3-5 years old would not be in their best interest.

This is tempting I really only need the batteries though.
I have the new 2nd Generation M18 Fuel Hammer Drill and Impact and they are a big improvement. More power, smaller and less weight. These older 1st Gen Fuel tools will be discounted in coming months. Might be a good idea to buy new when they go on sale, rather than buying refurbished.

I had seen it at the HD I got to in Massena NY, in store it was $299 labor day weekend and also when I went back last Thu (Sept 17), online they have it at $349

When I checked a couple of weeks ago I had seen other $229 deals, either they had them for a labor day sale or more likely they have sold out; I did see many places showing it as discontinued......$299 makes for a great deal.
Check your local HD or just do weekly searches. With the new ones shipping and getting in stores, retailers are motivated to get the older model off the shelves, and any HD that has many in stock might drop that store to $299

Also jdoenumber2, you don't show what area of the country you live. If you or any other GJ'er is near the CDN border, some retailers have them at $399 CDN with a $100 off if you have a trade in, so $299 CDN. Figure about 30% exchange you get and you would be getting close to $200-$220 US.
Trade ins include any 18v form major competitors or also Milwaukee V18, which must include 2 batteries and a charger, working or non working.
The trade in is being run by Milwaukee Canada bot only certain retaires are participating.
If you are on the west coast, KMS has many BC locations and a few Alberta locations.

Varies with each province, Toronto (Ontario) has harmonized sales tax (HST) which is the combined federal & provincial, I think it is 15%. Alberta last I heard only has the 5% federal, no provincial sales tax, not sure about BC.
If you go for the Gen 1 Fuel, call to make sure they have stock; once any place runs out, they might not be able to get more.
Gen 2 should not be an issue, but maybe calling isn't a bad idea, it would crappy to show up and they have no stock till the following week, or something like that.
The pictures are not the 4 amp-hr batteries..
He's right,if it says XC on the Battery,it's the 3.0..
The 4.0 and 5.0 say XC4.0 and XC5.0 right on the side.

Actually, the pictures show both the 4.0 and 3.0 batteries... no big deal since they are stock photos. The description states 2 4.0 batteries so that better be what comes!

CPO is great about returns (if the batteries are not 4.0 but I think they will be), they'll send pre-paid FedEx to get it back.

Not that impressed, for some reason I was thinking the batteries were new from a previous comment and they're definitely not... probably wouldn't have paid $200 for these. Drill is definitely used, the impact looks pretty good.

Mine came in yesterday. I would say a 4 out of 5 on the condition. Minor scuffs on the metal chuck housings on both impact and driver. One battery clearly used: a bit dirty and scuffed. One battery looked like fresh outta the shrink wrap. Date of manufacture on everything was week 30 of 2014. Pretty happy for the price.

You gotta remember you're essentially buying used here, the only guarantee is that the tools function fine mechanically.....which is all that really matters. I'm sure batteries were tested w something more elaborate than just checking voltage, and if they test fine and aren't dated too old, who cares?
I get it - I've briefly felt a little let down when I get recons w clear signs of previous use, but the second I start using the tool and it works, that feeling goes away. Also I soon realize that scuff would have been caused by me if not by a previous user.

Got the combo the other day. XC 4.0 batteries. Drill had some noticeable wear on it. Driver looked pretty good.
I was happy with it until the unit would cut out while I was using it in hammer drill mode, drilling some holes in concrete for tapcons after about 15-20 seconds and cut back in. Swapped batteries same thing, did the same thing in brick. Batteries weren't hot. I'm guessing the trigger but who knows.
Going to send it back, probably not get another refurbished but new.
