Record #6 restoration

Hi guys!

First post, and a warm hi from Groningen, Netherlands.

I would like to share my work on a recently bought Record #6 vise. I paid 50 euros for it, seems like a good deal? So I disassembled the vise, sandblasted it and repainted it in a lighter blue instead of the original colour. Can't wait for using her in my workshop!

It all started a small month ago when I bought a Paramo no.2 vise and I thought, let's make it beautiful again..

Nice vice, €50 is a very fair price, its not 1948 though, more like 1980's or newer, I expect the digits of the stamp were reversed, the boarder around the Record gives it away, older ones are like the advert you posted. Swivel base is rare also, almost never seen with the larger sizes here in the UK.

Nice, I got a Record 5 with swivel base, locking levers stamped Made in England as well

Nice vice! I paid about $80 euros for mine here in Canada. It was still in use in a shop so no rust and no heavy use but did have some grinding on the dynamic jaw from carelessness or custom fitting something. I like the way the swivel locks work, easy to tighten and smooth gliding when loosened. Good score!

I would have added a roller thrust bearing while you had it apart. That spring really puts alot of pre-load on the spindle and the bearing prevents binding.

Not seen an early Record with a swivel base.

I love Record Vises.. they just feel right.. Nice Resto..

I would have added a roller thrust bearing while you had it apart.

That sounds very interesting for a future resto. Do you need to completely remove the pressure spring then? thanks for the advice.

That Record vise with the quick release is nice, that is my dream vise
