They are, or rather were, one of the major manufacturers of pliers in the U.K. Quality was right up there with the likes of Elliott Lucas and Knipex, and prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, Record was taken over a few years ago and the products that wern't outsourced were dropped. Old stock can sometimes be found in British tool or hardware shops, or even on eBay, and is well worth acquiring!

Is that anvil made from cast iron or steel.

I have 4 blue Record C-clamps that are just great as well. Nice rolled threads, smooth operation. I can't remember where I bought them, but wish I had more as they weren't that expensive at the time.

It's cast iron ... unfortunately. The top was also painted blue when I got it but I sanded it off "for looks".
