Hey Guys and Gals?,

I'm new to the forum. Retired teacher and like to "piddle" in the shop. I recently acquired a nice Record SQ6 vise that is non-working. It is the quick release type in great shape except that the internals are damaged. The pins are bent and the small, cast internal piece that holds the threaded pieces, that house the main screw is bent and cracked.
I'd like to restore it but don't have a clue if parts are available or not. If so where would one get them? Also is it possible to get an exploded drawing of the vise to help in re-assembly?
Can anyone help?:)

JD: welcome to the forum. i owned the same vise and wish i still owned it because the quick release feature is nice.

have you read the Vise Repair 101 thread in this section? there are plenty of posts on quick release. also if you make your post on that thread with a lot of pictures i bet you'll get some suggestions and maybe answers pretty quickly on the fix.

good luck

JD: if you can get the pictures up tonight the guys across the pond that have most of these awesome vices might have posts with ideas for you on how to fix your Record.

or tomorrow works too and just saying.

good luck and you are welcome

JD: can you post pictures of your vise? the link didn't work for me that you posted. i am not the quick release expert, but there are a few if you can post pictures of your vice in the Vise Repair 101 thread. that gets a lot of views as you can see and plenty of guys from across the pond that belong here that own those types of vices.

cheers

JD: when you post a link it sometimes doesn't work. do you have any pictures saved to your cell phone or laptop or ipad? i use the paperclip above where you are writing your posts so click on that, browse, click on picture, then download and save.

best spot to put the pictures would be in the Vise Repair 101 thread in vintage tools or the main vise thread in general tools.

ok?

CNG: exactly
