Hi

I've just acquired a old Record 83 vice.

Mechanically it seems fine but the jaws are a bit worn. Any suggestions of where to get replacements?

I contacted Irwin who said it was obsolete and they didn't carry parts. Looking at the worn ones they measure about 3.25 in. Any idea where to start looking?

Just did a search and it looks like most of that "83" stuff is in your back yard.

It is a pretty small vise, so I expect you do not intend to do do real heavy duty work with it. If yours are totally finished ( you might be able to turn them over - top to bottom), I'd just make some up from bar stock to use now and wait for better things to come along. Have used mild steel jaws in some of my old vises before and they did OK.

Here is somebody's machine shop project.......works just fine with mild steel jaws.

Have you tried eBay?

I've looking but nothing's shown up so far

Are you looking on ebay or just Google? Nothing specific came up for me.

I'm not planing on real heavy duty work but the jaws are scored and dented.

Thanks for the suggestions about making my own. I may end up going down that route.
