When did Record stop putting "Made in England" stamp on their vises ?
I bought a NO.2 Record vise at a garage sale a few days ago but couldn't find any embossing on the other side .
Was this just before manufacturing was moved/switched over to China ?
I tried to find info on the vise thread but that is a huge thread to bumble through ...interesting though .

For dating Record vices, use the English spelling when talking about old Record , chuckle, I found a reply on this site that helped https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/hand-tools.html

The shape of the handles dates them. But I forgot when and what.

The English keep decent records, so looking up Record Planes might give you a timeline of the company. I have an English made Record, that I picked up at Lee Valley Coquitlam store, when they clearanced them, so it's within the last 20 years.

Thanks for the replies. I went through 20 pages of ukworkshop (another 427 to go) but threads were mostly about planes ,chisels and woodworking vises

ToolKeeper: I should know this, but sadly my old laptop with a lot of my pictures and catalog pages crashed and lately i'm working more on GETTING ORGANIZED than buying more tools or researching them.

that said I was able to keep a few pictures of the inside of the old Record vice factory in England and as you can see it's been vacant for 20+ years.

Record vises had Shefield cast on them without made in England and if I recall correctly those were made in Shefield, China (sneaky?).

can you post up a few pictures of your Record vice?

i'm guessing the last MADE IN ENGLAND Record vices were mid to late 90's, but here to learn if that isn't correct.

I just picked up this old Record made in England quick release vice with the lever that i'd love to hear when it left the factory too.
