I see blue Record vises all the time, but I've noticed that there are a few models that supposedly had red paint from the factory. Is there any reason why some models were red when it seems that most were blue?

Heh, that wouldn't be the first time.

I did a search, albeit not comprehensive, on this site and a couple others and couldn't find an answer. I'm wondering if there was a specific reason like they were produced for a certain country, industry, or company. Maybe the red models were produced during certain years or in cities other than Sheffield, for example. :dunno:

Hi from England! Joined just to provide an answer. Apparently Record's cast steel vices were painted red, the cast iron ones were painted blue. The cast steel vices often (always?) had an anvil surface.

I have two Record vises which I bought at Sam's Club right after I moved to Phoenix in 1994. I got these at what would now be considered fire sale prices. At the time I questioned myself for buying two. If I would have known then what I know now I'd have bought four.
