Rectangle Duct End Cap

I am in need of some help as to how to install this duct end cap.

Its an 8" x 18" rectangular duct. I have one drive-cleat on the 8" side.

However it looks like I might need to use the folding tool on the 18" side and fold the "tongue" back over and use an 18" drive cleat (which I don't have currently).

Curious if there's something else I'm missing. Thanks for any help!

Do you have a pair of folders handy?
I'd bend the ends back 180 degrees,hard to see pictures on my stupid phone some days.

Hard to tell from the pictures but I think you have the cap on backwards. No slips or drives required.

That cap was made wrong. The top and bottom should be flat and use "S" cleats anddrives on the side like you have. I would flatten the bend on the bottom and top and pick up some "S" cleats. You could alternatively bend the duct line piece and put 2 more drives in the bottom but that would be tough in that position.

Hard to tell from the pictures but I think you have the cap on backwards. No slips or drives required.

I also believe it's on upside down. Looks like it was designed to be slipped on then snap locked.

Sorry my pics kinda ****. The bends you see on the horizontal bottom of the cap are the exact same on all 4 sides, just different dimensions.

The rectangle duct has 2 long horizontal tabs (18" long) that stick out farther than the 180 deg vertical bends on the 8" sides.

I do have a pile of 18" S-cleats for joining other sections. But it appears like I either need to unfold the 18" edges of the cap or else 180 deg fold the 18" tab on the duct.

I think your cap was made to cap the end of a raw cut duct with no bends or tabs sticking out.

Update: just got it figured out. I used a utility knife to score the bottom of the 18" long 180 deg bend on the long-side of the cap, snapped both of these off with a folding tool. Then snipped off approx 1/4" of the 18" long tab on the duct. Now S-cleats and drive cleats all fit perfectly.

Arrowhead, I think you are exactly right. It looks like if the cap orientation was reversed the 180deg bends would nicely capture the raw cutoff end without any more mods.

I much prefer having the end removable without screws etc. for cleaning inspection adding on. Just pull the drives and it pulls right off. Slips back on just as easy.
