Red cedar outdoor swing

2 years old kept in the garage through winter. Polyurethane sprayed coating only on sides that can be seen. The under sides are rough wood. Using exterior oil base polyurethane should the uncoated wood be coated?

I would cover all 6 sides. You will want to use a finish with UV inhibitors.

A solid wood piece should have the same treatment on all sides. The back/bottom don’t need to be as pretty.
