Does anyone have experiance with these? I am looking to replace my Craftsman coveralls but they have discontinued them.

I used these for automotive work and welding body panels on. I have a pair of Dickies but not super impressed with them.

Looking at the Twill Action ones.

I have no experience with their coveralls. However, when I was looking for a Carhartt "barn" coat a few years ago, the store owner said he had a sample coat from a salesman and he'd let me have it for $30 to try and give him a report. Turns out it is a Red Kap. I have been wearing it for several years and the quality is quite good. I'd never heard of Red Kap before, looked them up and I think I read they are Mexican-made. Or so I seem to recall.

In any case, based on the coat, I'd expect the coveralls to be very good.

I have a pair. Denim. Replaced my Dickies. About the same, basic bib overalls. But I like the chest pocket better. One big pocket with snap.

I think it probably depends on the line. They give us these Redkap coats at work and no one wears them when they are doing anything that involves sparks or flames because they go up so fast. Even our polyester shell hi-vis cold weather jackets hold up better than these ones do.

Also, again it may depend on the line but all of their work shirts seem to have the same sleeve length regardless of size so our little guys have regular length sleeves and our big boys have sleeves that are about 6 inches short.

Not trying to bad mouth Redkap because up until we got them as uniform shirts I had only heard good things about them. unfortunately, the stuff we get from them in my opinion is a level below Dickies.

I would recommend Key stuff though, the pants I have got from them wear like iron.

Redkap anti static polyester/nylon coveralls are the standard in Automotive final assembly paint. I have worn them for over thirty years (not the same pair) with no issues with wear or zippers going bad. A clean pair every day with my name on them. They are supplied by third part companies that wash and maintain them. The last company I worked for supplied them the but we had to wash them. I still use my own personal pair for car detailing as there are no zippers or buttons to scratch paint.

Here’s what I can tell you, Red Kap and Dickies uniform materials have off and on been made by Milliken company to the individual specs. They are very similar in weave and both, hold up very similar. I used to work in the part of the Milliken company that dyed the fabric. I’ve owned pieces of Dickies stuff that were ok and some that weren’t. For Red Kap I’ve worn their uniforms in the mimix line for the last year or so at work. The material holds up extremely well only snagged holes in a couple of my shirts and that was mostly my fault because after 39 years I still can’t walk on my own 2 feet sometimes.

How have they held to sparks?

I have work/tore a hole in the knee of my Craftsman, and have put a few more holes in them the last few days.

Thanks everyone for their inputs!

For welding you want cotton, not the polyester and cotton blends. Polyester melts and makes a hole.

I’d have to look at them but I believe they’ve held up reasonably well. I know grinding sparks hasn’t affected them any, when I weld or cut I tend to throw on a welding jacket to knock it down but I have worn them with out anything over them when cutting with a torch and don’t remember burning holes in them with slag.

AND can melt to your skin I may add.

Maybe consider going with a pair of cotton or duck bibs and a light welding jacket. They are pretty reasonably priced. I have a lincoln branded one, but there are many.

I wear the Red Kap Cotton Zip Front Overalls. I like them for winter automotive work - a little heavy for summer time use. They have held up very well.
