Red/Pink paint job on 97 Integra

My kid bought a 97 Acura Integra and the original paint was red, however the car looks a little pink haze has settled over it. Is this a normal thing for a red car to fade out to if in the sun too much? Can this be corrected by detailing the paint with special cleaners? Looks to me that it could have been clear coated over the original finish. The front bumper cover looks almost a different color than the rest of the car! Sorry, no pictures at this time, maybe a canidate for a new paint job!

I believe those have a single stage paint that is now oxidized. All you need to do is wash the car, clay it to get rid of the surface contaminates and machine polish with a good polish. Once you are done, wax with a good wax and enjoy your new red car.

Those are the basic steps, but it's a little more involved than that. Take a look over on http://meguiarsonline.com/. Some of the transformations they'd done are amazing. http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/forums/photopost/data/500/WantedEMBA.jpg I have personally been to the Meguiar's garage, and their stuff really does work, when used properly. Read up on there about all the proper steps. Unless you have paint or clear flaking off, there's a good chance you can save it. If you want to just try a bottle of something from the auto parts store, I'd recommend Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Just be sure to try a small test area first. Once you determine what your paint needs, a dual-action buffer like the Porter Cable unit is a good way to achieve a great finish (with the proper foam pads) without the risk of burning the paint with a rotary buffer.

Yeh, I kept it simple as it would take me a day to type all of the do's and don'ts out with my slow typing. I use a PC, DeWalt or a Makita polisher with Edge foam and 3M wool pads, I'm partial to Menzerna, Optimum, Poorboys and 3M polishes, Pinnacle clays and high end carnuba waxes (Wolfgang Fusion, Pinnacle Souveran and Dodo Juice Supernatural) as well as my normal waxes (Poorboys Natty Blue and Collinite 845 Liquid Insulator wax

Having said that, Poor Boys Professional Polish is a good chemical cleaner that will usually take off oxidized paint in a hurry without inducing additional swirls in the paint by using a soft pad on a DA Porter Cable polisher.

alot of toyotas do the same thing....especially on the fender flares on trucks
but the guys with red trucks just repainted or left it
