What do you guys use to dissolve or loosen RTV gasket maker that can't be scraped off. It was used on a pellet stove to attach the stove pipe adapter to a pellet stove. TIA

I guess I didn't explain very clearly. The adapter (3" round) is already attached to the stove outlet via the RTV. I'm looking for a way to detach them from each other without destroying the adapter (or the pellet stove).

There are some RTV dissolvers out there but in an application like that you really have to get in there with a blade and open it up a bit to get it in there.

Carbide scraper. Works on the pull stroke.

You have to be careful with it. It WILL gouge cast iron, steel and aluminum ?

No it doesn't.
actually it does. The RTV swells and lifts over time. Seen it many times. It does not dissolve it immediately. There are sprays that work on RTV quicker. I've read that Toulene does a good job too. Gasoline has toulene in its formulation.

Hand held propane torch. You can get it hot enough to break the bond and not screw up the adapter. I have done it many times working with stainless venting that get silicone to seal the joints.
