Fixed it for yuh.
Forget about the mink oil. Get the liquid oil that comes in a plastic jar with the brush in the cap. After you buy the jar, they refill the jar with oil for free. I don't use the brush it comes with though. I use a paint brush and brush the oil on until the leather is soaked. You'll never have cracks that way.
Only one word you need to know for leather care, Obenauf's.
+1 on the Obenaufs. It's what RedBack recommends for use on their boots. In fact I just got through treating mine with Obenaufs Heavy Duty LP, a couple hours ago. Good stuff![]()
Red Wing used to make darn good boots in the USA. Now they import sub-assemblies and do the final assembly here in the US and then call them USA made when they're nothing more than Asian junk and they are quite deceptive about it. Read an article about this years back, contacted Red Wing and never heard back. Haven't bought a pair of their boots since and all my previous boots were Red Wing (still have some of my old ones), I'm not paying top dollar for Asian junk.

In my experience redwing is very straight forward on there tags. For instance.. My 926's say Made in the USA with imported materials. I know when I was boot shopping I had it narrowed down to 2 separate pair of red wings, one was china and the other was made here with global materials. I chose the lesser of 2 evils..
They must have been caught because a few years back the were putting USA Made on shoes were just assembled here or maybe they changed the labels because people are more accepting of the Made in the USA with imported materials now.
I'll look for the article, it was a while back and I didn't have much luck searching for it yesterday, but to summarize; Red Wing was being deceptive.
I recall reading the article myself, IRC it might have been linked here. What I don't remember if there was foul play on Redwing or if they where just acting within the guidelines off the FTC COO, or simply skirting the guidelines.
What is the oil you are referring to? I wear 595's. I used to clean them with saddle soap but it seems to dry them out over time.
