NATE'S ****, AS SEEN TODAY...

THE EVOLUTION...

Two years ago, I finally got (semi)serious about putting together a workbench in the garage. I've commandeered the third stall of our three car garage (and yes, we park cars in the other two!) and carved out a space to work on the hobby. I do wish the garage were finished - an uninsulated garage in MN is tolerable for about three months of the year - but it's been great!

I'm an amateur audiophile and like the DIY aspect - I build hifi tube amplifiers, so my main work area is part electronics bench, part metal workshop. My drill press is my most used tool.

But most of us are here for the pics, I'd guess, so without further ado...

Hey Drives, definitely not done but I can't claim to have much of a plan, either. The goal for the immediate future is to declutter more and make the space more functional, but it's pretty fluid...

We're talking about moving so I won't invest a lot in the structure itself. But I'm keeping my eye out for a couple of things. I'd like to find a little Atlas 618 or the Craftsman equivalent. And it seems I ought to own a good tablesaw someday.

RB: might i suggest looking for and maybe buying this little Craftsman table saw. i think i'm going to put on the original stand, but the 75 year old that restored this for me did a helluva job don't you think.

cheers

Looks like a really great shop to me. The drill press is totally awesome. The Craftsman table saw is a work of art. Your place displays a lot of thought and planning, organization and usefulness. I like it a lot and I am very glad you posted it for our enjoyment. You like a lot of us here on GJ, you love restored quality!! Thanks for posting this.

Best Regards

Thanks Herb. I'd call it a work in progress. It's definitely more about the journey than the destination right now.

I spent a little time in your thread and I really like your work!

I've waffled a little over whether to "bump" this thread, because so much of what you saw in the previous pictures hasn't moved in the last year... :-/

But I have made a little progress, and I have acquired a couple of things worth mentioning!

For instance, I bought this beauty of a bandsaw! Yeah, it's a run-of-the-mill Delta 14, but it has a 1hp motor instead of the more common 1/2hp.

I got new blades and blocks for it from Iturra, and it's just peachy!

I also did a little horse-trading recently, selling two workbenches to make way for one BIG shop table...

It came out of an old high school shop, and still has gum stuck to the underside!

This is the best my space has looked for a while, but I feel like I've got a long way to go. My next major goal is to clear the walls by selling or getting rid of most of the stuff you see on the shelves. No more cardboard storage allowed!

REDBOY: maybe you should have a piece of plywood that drops down from the ceiling to cover your bench so you can put stuff on it and then when you need a clean bench just raise it up. can you tell i'm working on my FSD?

great looking shop!!

Thanks, drives!

And the bench cover idea's an interesting one... but I'm aiming more for the "a place for everything, and everything in its place" approach. I still have room for improvement!

very nice stack o ****!

Thanks, Scott!

Here are a couple more shots of some things I like...

The lamp and the Equipto cabinet came from an auction, with the bullet vise. I'm trying to decide what I'll keep in those nifty drawers.

The check filing cabinets to the right were cast-offs from work. Love love love those things! They have full-extension roller bearing glides, and can handle a ton of weight.
