Hey everyone! Very happy to be here and to have read through many of the build threads that others have put together. I love seeing the creativity and hard work put into all the fantastic garages around the world. Thank you for sharing!

A little background on my build. My wife and I relocated from KY to PA in 2012. After touring many houses for sale, I couldn't find a garage I liked that would fit the cars and stuff we had. Since we would be facing cold weather I really wanted to be able to park my daily driver inside during the winter. I already had a 4 post lift but needed ceiling height to utilize it. So after much debate, I convinced my wife that we should build a house to get the garage I wanted.

So we picked out a 2 story 1800 sq ft house and I made plans to add a third bay to the garage along with some other custom touches.

This was my wish list:
- 11 foot ceilings (wanted 12, but can live with the 11)
- High rise doors with the front mounted openers
- Extra outlets including a 220V
- Extra lights
- 6" concrete in the third bay for the lift

I also wanted to add more square footage to the garage, just wasn't sure if width or depth would be more useful. The main driving factor was the lift and how big it would look in the garage. So I installed google sketchup and drew the garage and lift in 3D to get an idea of how it would look inside. I'm very glad that I did because it allowed me to see that more depth was the way to go. Since my garage would have the 2 foot step back for the third bay, that also created a 2 foot step back on the back wall. That put the front left post of the lift about a foot from that corner. That made the decision easy, push that back wall farther back another 2 feet. This would also give me more space for cabinets on the back wall. The overall size of the garage is 22 feet deep by 32 feet wide.

Here is the updated sketch with the back wall pushed back. I added in some cabinets and the sink to get an idea of how it would look.

Skipping ahead to the build. Here is the garage from the front.

Inside with the door and tracks installed.

My father in law came over one weekend to help me get some insulation on the exterior walls. Very glad I did this.

Here is the floor drain in the middle of the 2 car part of the garage.

Drywall is up.

Garage door openers installed.

Concrete poured. The 2 car bay is 4 inches thick. The third bay on the right is 6 inches thick and they also did that section 100% level for the lift.

I couldn't resist checking how the car looked in the new garage. This is also where the name came from. This is the Redline edition of the Saturn Ion. The walls will be painted to match the logo, grey background with a solid red stripe.

And the lift getting reassembled after move in day. It's a Backyard Buddy.

I've gotten some work done to the garage over the winter but it got cold very quickly and that really slowed things down. Spring is coming up soon so I'll be back out there to finish it.

Since moving in I've purchased several of the Kobalt cabinets from Lowes and a Craftsman tool cabinet. I've also hung some of the gear track panels that I accumulated at the last garage. I need to get pictures of those.

Anywho, thanks for looking and for providing so many great threads to look through on this site. They have been a very bad influence on me for sure

Thanks!

A couple more pics.

Gear track on the left side wall. I've got this one pretty high so that I can walk under it.

Added a few small accents to the tall Kobalt cabinet on the back wall.

Great space you have created. Were you involved with the actual building or was it done by a builder? Either way nice work with the specs and getting in there to do those things you would regret not doing after, such as the proper insulation and the floor drain.

BTW Looks like it is almost done now. Post up some overall pics of the current stage.

We had this one built. Picked out a standard floor plan and then worked on improving the garage. Everything on the wish list was added except for the floor drain and the insulation. I did the insulation and the floor drain was standard in the build for them. Worked for me, one less thing I had to pay extra for.

It turned out pretty well so far. I had some paint pealing issues so I need to get that fixed now that it is finally warming up. Then I'll post pics of the entire inside :)

My last garage was only 8.5 feet tall so it's nice to finally be able to use the lift!

Thanks everyone! I plan to get moving on finishing up the remaining details so that I can post updated pictures soon.

Cool build!!

My wife drives a Vue Redline, by the way. Fun little thing. :)

Awesome! Big Saturn fan here, especially the Redline variety. My Ion has been a great car, bought her brand new in 2006. Just turned 135k miles yesterday.

Spent a bunch of time the last few days in the garage trying to get it organized. So now I've got new pictures!

It's about 90% complete right now. I've got some more posters that I need to hang and hopefully can get to that in the next few weeks. Bring on spring and some warm weather!

Well the unfortunate answer is nothing at the moment on flooring. Blew the initial budget on all the cabinets, the tire shelf, and the tool chest. I'd love to do a racedeck at some point because I think they look fantastic. It's just a little out of range for me right now because I'd want to do the entire garage and not just the 3rd bay. We'll see.

Beautiful car Jim! I've always loved those Sky's, hope to pick one up some day.

I've got one of the Ion Redlines.

Very nice!

What motor does it have? Mine is a 2.0 four Turbo with just at 300HP and 325 torque. Quick, but still gets 30+mpg on the freeway if I can keep my foot out of it!

Thanks! Our engine blocks are basically the same, but the boost is different. Your car has the turbo and mine has the supercharger. Mine is 265 hp / 242 tq right now.

Hey everyone! I'm back to add more pics. I did some decorating on the garage this summer. I already had these two posters up on the wall. Definitely 2 of my favorites, although the one on the right is now a bummer given that the racing program was just cancelled.

Next was to get some stuff on the wall on the far right. I didn't want to hang anything on the wall since the lift is so close, so I had lots of room for posters. I got a bit lucky and was able to get my hands on some large VS posters. Somewhat obnoxious, yes. Completely awesome, also yes. Photo-bombing the picture is my favorite toy.

I also finished an arts and crafts project from last winter. I wanted to see if I could make some giant logos for the wall of the new garage. Started with one and when it turned out pretty good I kept going to get the other 2 done. I'm very pleased with how they came out.

And the time had finally come to replace the daily drivers this past summer. After some shopping around my wife wanted a Dart. Several months later I did some shopping around..... and got a nice deal on another Dart. So now we have 2! It's become an all mopar garage for the time being.

And just to make sure I can still stack 2 cars. The Dart fits, but the antenna is about an inch too tall. I just have to remember to take that off or have someone push it down as I back up. Not too big of a deal as I don't stack cars over there very often.

VS posters for the win!

Edit: I'm sure you could get a shorty antenna for under $20 and save some grief.

:D My wife is tolerating them for now. The one thing she does not like is the poster selection for the far right. When the garage door is open all you can see is those two ladies from the waist down. Whoops!

Very nice. That Viper came out of nowhere. How long have you had it? year?

Yeah I thought I had posted pics of it back in the spring when I started the thread, apparently I was wrong. I've had it 6 years now, it's a 1995 RT/10. So much fun to drive. I've been a Viper nut since I was a kid and its only gotten worse since I've owned one.

Nice place! I have to say the Viper was a nice surprise. It was a Saturn love-in for a bit. I chuckled when i saw the Viper posters and was like must be dreaming! Then bam! Old school and yellow in your face.

Posters are probably loved by the neighbors too!

Surprise! :)

Even though we have recently sold both Saturns I'm still a big fan. I'd like to add a Sky Redline to the garage at some point.

I suppose I'm still dreaming of more Vipers.....

A couple friends came over for the weekend last month. Took the opportunity to get some pics of them in the garage.

Rock them until they really become a problem. Then I'll send you my address lol...

Love your old school viper btw. I share the obsession since i was a kid, but i'm not lucky enough to also have one in the garage :)

Haha good plan! Keep the dream alive and go get one! You will not regret it. It took me 15 years to finally take the plunge and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Shoot if I can upgrade this one in a couple years to a gen 3 I'll let you know.

Where is the red track outlines art from?

www.trackdecals.com

Their regular decals come in lots of sizes and colors. You can also get giant versions as real art on the wall made out of wood I think. They look awesome but are pricey.

Well another driving season has come to an end. I had to prep the garage for its winter configuration. I keep the Viper up in the air so that the snow blower can sit in front of the door for easy access. Our first day of snow was 12 inches in 9 hours.

Going to try to not go too crazy waiting for spring to arrive. :willy_nil

I have not been to the ring unfortunately, but would really like to go some day. I hear you can get a "taxi" ride around the track that is rather fun.

The second sticker down is the Tail of the Dragon. I've been going there with the Viper club the last 5 years. Absolutely love that area. So many fun roads to drive.

The other 3 tracks are ones that I have visited over the last few years. The Charlotte roval, Putnam Park, and Mid-Ohio. Hopefully I can visit a few more and add more stickers to the cabinet!
