My trailer, (shop), is where I work and play. It doesn't get moved, but will at some point in the future. It is powered from a line in my apartment, and will have 12v hookup to power brakes, running lights, etc.

I want to mount some lights on the exterior, for night illumination. (Also, to get a start on running lights, etc.). Question is: How to power these 12v lights right now. Will a 12v battery charger work? I'm looking at perhaps 4 floodlights, possibly.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Yes a battery will work, not for long but it will work. Now if you want it to last a while get LED Off road lights from ebay and the battery will last you a lot longer. 1st choice 2 6v golf cart batteries in series, 2nd 2 marine batteries in parallel, 3rd 1 marine battery, 4th 1 starting battery. You can learn/experiment with any set up and get some lights, wire and battery then have at it if what you have gets you enough light then great, if you need more light longer build on it.

Buy a couple,of batteries. Buy a solar panel to charge them.
Use LED lighting to make the battery power last longer

Depending on the 12VDC amperage amperage of these lights, Id buy a 120V powered - 12VDC 30amp output power supply and make a splitter - unplug from the 12V wiring for a vehicle and just plug it in the wired port connected to the power supply. Guessing you will not want these lights on your cars 12V circuit without a relay and direct wire. Check your vehicles alternator output too.

Got an old unused computer around? Steal the power supply from it. Much cleaner power, costs pennies to modify for how you want it to work and an hour of your time.
