I'm considering putting a urinal in my garage. Just gonna run out the wall and pipe down into a hole full of gravel, then bury it. Pour a capfull of bleach in there now and then. Is this O. K. ? Can I concrete over it? No code issues, frost lines(Gulf Coast) to worry about.

You'll probably get some smell back through the plumbing. I'd suggest dumping a bag of charcoal in the hole but not if you concrete over it.

So you won't have running water for this? Will like smell at the urinal. It won't have a p trap of water. Definitely don't want a p trap of pee. I say use Gatorade bottle.

As a kid I went to a YMCA Camp as a "Camper" then when I got older I was a Counselor in Training (CIT). There was a bunk house for those who were not assigned to a "Camper Cabin". Somebody rigged up a funnel in a knot-hole with a hose on the small end into the woods. We called it "The Thunder Mug" LOL, that was 40 years ago.

I think you need a "Pee Trap" HAAHAHAHAHA to keep the smell down and maybe a jug of water to flush the trap.

I don't think a p trap will work without a flushing system. I plan to keep a bottle of bleach next to it. This would see occasional use. When it is real cold( not often down here) or raining. Just a home hobby garage. I usually just piss outside, but it would come in handy.

We had an old school bus we used for deer hunting during VT winters and would park it in the woods to camp. We had fold out bunks and a wood stove in it..... Cut a 3 inch hole in the floor at the back corner of the bus. We would put a tall traffic cone in it upside down for late night urinal......

I can tell you that the vapors from combining bleach and urine are horrid! It may not kill you but you'll be looking for an exit in short order. No, there isn't any ammonia in urine. Just go around back and 'mark your territory' against a tree or shrub. That will keep critters away too.

if you don't have running water to flush with just dump it out onto the ground instead of into a pit. Especially if its just for occasional use.

I can tell you from past experience that if you dump the urine on the same spot of ground for long periods of time, then have to dig in that area, you will regret it! At my old house I had a walk out basement. I would go commune with nature at the base of a large maple tree. Did it for 22 years. One day the wife decided she wanted to plant Hostas around the base of the tree and asked if I would dig it up for her. Everything was fine till I got to my "spot"... The smell about knocked me down when I turned the soil over. When she came out to plant, she was like WTH is that smell? I told her dogs must be peeing there, but she knew it was me. YMMV :D

I currently use a gatorade bottle and take it into the house to empty it. :)

I am facing the same thing as I want to install a sink and urinal but have no way to tie into the septic system. I think I will do the 55 gallon drum in the ground with gravel trick or maybe the 4" perforated pipe buried 1' deep and 50 feet long beside the shop to drain the waste water.

A redneck would mount it to a tree and run a hose out to the ditch..:dunno:

55 gallon drum:
First you need a plastic 55 gallon drum, dirt that can be dug deep enough to bury it, either on its side or upright, and at least 18" below frost line, poke it full of 1/2" holes, then fill it full of #57 or larger gravel. Route your drain into it. Limit the amount of solids that go down the drain to keep from plugging the gravel. The water will simply soak into the soil.

50 4" Drain line

Dig a ditch 18" deep x 12" wide x 50' long. Put 4" of #57 gravel in the bottom, lay the perforated pipe on top of that. Route your drain into the end of the pipe then seal the other end with a cap. Cover the pipe to within 4" of the soil surface with gravel. Cover gravel with landscape fabric to keep fine dirt out of gravel then fill to top with soil and sow grass on it.

Neither of these are my ideas. I think I got both of these from an old Mother Earth News magazine.

How about a 2 or 3 inch pipe out of the wall at about a 45 degree angle-hey, measure this for comfort. Pour in some bleach once in a while and cover the pipe with a standard pipe cap to cut out the smell. Take the other end of the pipe like you said. Not legal, but might work, just watch your aim!

I'd dig a hole, throw in some gravel run a small (3/8-1/2") tube down and bury it. Throw a "pee cake" in your urinal for top side odor. No significant odor will come up through a small tube if the bottom is buried. When you are done with this years from now just pull the tube out of the ground. I wouldn't bury a barrel and all that cause I don't want disclose I have a buried tank or drain field or other hazard when I move and have any potential liability for it.

I highly doubt deep enough to bury a 55 gal drum, without hitting water. maybe try a 5 gal bucket since it will be occasional use.

I just bought some used nut/bolt bins and hardware from a guy who was going out of business. Had a urinal mounted on the wall with a pipe dumping outside, hole big enough that you could see the end of the pipe outside. All his nuts and bolts mounted on the wall above the urinal. No running water but used urinal pucks.

I like the 55 gal drum deal. I don't have 50' of ground to dig up. I wonder how deep I can dig here 20 miles from Galveston without hitting water ?

That seems like rediculous overkill.....

I've had an ABS pipe with a small funnel going through the wall for years. I put a plastic cap in it when not in use. No smell, no fuss, no mess. Goes between the shop and fence where no-one can see or smell it. Easy-peasy.

Your in Texas City, there is enough oil and chemicals in the soil to burn up all the pee you put in the ground. OK I lived in League City for four years. I think a gravel pit would be ok with what you plan to do. You may even think about using cholrine tablets for septic tanks to place into a pvc pipe inseted into the pit to keep things in check and not too smelly. The water table in that area is probaly only 5'-6'

What the hell kind of garages you guys got that you think this stinks. You fanatics kill me. Go in the house and sit down then cause drinking beer and ******* in the wind doesn't sound like it's your cup of tea.

Really

My dog pisses more in the yard in one week than i do in the garage in 6 months. ( depends on how much beer is in the frige LOL)

The 55 gallon drum was for a urinal AND a shop sink to drain into. If you have well draining soil a 55 gallon drum might be complete overkill. Here in south central KY we have poor draining clay and I figured I'd need the larger capacity. I plan to plumb it first then route it to just a hole in the ground to see how well it drains with "normal use". It may turn out I only need a 15 gallon drum for my needs. :dunno:

When I looked at the picture initially, I thought that was a real urinal! Good job  Damn, now I have to pee

HA HA Good answer! I am really overthinking this probably. I'm just gonna put a hole in the ground. If it fill with piss I'll bury it. Done.

If your garage has downspouts off the roof, run the discharge line to wherever the downspout goes, then the rains will thoroughly flush the residue away.

Or route some rain flow to the target area to keep it cleaned out.

you said you'd use it in rainy seasons anyhow....

How about one of these with the drain tapped into the drain for your garage sink?

Exactly, if your ******* enough to make it stink then you might be an alcoholic ! LOL:beer:

I'd say even a hole is overkill it will evaporate even before you're wife discovers it and yells at you. Rain will naturally cleanse the area.

Thing is, it's gonna drain right in the area I want to cover and make a shelter for my dogs. It was raining hard earlier and I was just wishing I didn't have to run out in the rain to piss by the tree. I think a pipe in the ground and some gravel down there will work. If not, I'll just get wet. I won't melt.
