Currently we have a 14 x 14 sunroom with a typical P.T lumber floor. Wife wants it redone so that it is a solid floor. I'm thinking porcelain tile over hardi-board. Any one gone that route, other suggestions. This is in North Carolina.
Cheers

You can do that but I'd double up the joists below, add a layer of plywood screwed all the way to the joists and lay the Hardie board in thinset and screw it too. This way you will have no flex. Use all the admixes or epoxy sets and grouts.

You may have a height problem. If so, pull the decking and build back with the ply/board system.

Really depends on the current floor joist layout and how much flex there is. You may be better off with Ditra than a cement board product... it seems like a cement board would be better for eliminating flex, but unless you truly get rid of it to the extent that the mortar joints won't crack, Ditra does a better job isolating the floor.

I'd remove the decking for sure and go with 1" or thicker OSB flooring.

Thanks guys for replies, this sun room is a typical east coast structure, basically a screened in porch/deck that gets damp, a lot of heat and cold. Does that change your thoughts?

I would pull the current floor expose the joists, add joists if needed and put down TREX or synthetic decking of your choice. Great stuff, maintenance free. Mine still looks good after 18 trouble free years.
