im gllad your asking what the original color is because i have a reed about that old, maybe a little older, but i have it all primed but not quite sure what the color is suppose to be
1912 or earlier. The old fixed base Reeds of this style showed patent dates of 1912 and 1914 on the side. The swivels also had one from 1908. Yours must have been sometime between when they applied for and when they received the 1912 patent. I don't recall seeing one with only the 1912 date, but since vise makers were big on trumpeting their patents I expect that it was added to the casting as soon as it was awarded.
Just want to say hats off. I have a similar Reed 106, but yours is older than mine (mine was cast with a patent date). This is by far my favorite style and vintage of Reed vise, so excellent find! Keep the pics coming after it's restored!
