What is a fair price for this Reed 205?

Looks to be fairly straight an un-hammered. The handle is not original though. The old standby rule is $1 per pound, but I'd probably offer $100 if its as clean as it looks. Why are vise pics always on tailgates?

Just shy of 90 pounds, if memory serves. Those Reeds are heavy for their size!

Jaw condition means everything. Those jaws were forged on and not replaceable unless your into metal working. Those jaws are not squared out and look to have been beat up a bit. If the jaws are worn smooth and you I might hold back all together.

Thanks for all the input. The seller is asking $200 and it is a 4hr round trip drive for me to check it out in person. Sounds like I should pass on this one.

Unfortunately, old heavy vises don't seem to pop up in my area much.

Buy one from gatewaysysop. He does some really nice restos on vises and his prices are close to what a non-restored old vise would be.

I've got a Reed 105 that looks bigger than that one... It's 92 pounds. I paid $45 for it two years ago at a swap meet.

It replaced a 45-pound Columbian I bought the year before for $25 (I think).

Keep your eyes open and be patient, and you'll find one.
Go to automotive swap meets in your area. That's where I got both of mine.

As for the vise in the pic, that one doesn't have the original handle.
