Hey there, curious where i can go about finding an older 8" vise? Craigslist and Marketplace haven't proven very successful.

A lot of the serious collectors here have said industrial auctions are the best bet these days. Be prepared to pay up for one of those. In good condition you are probably going over $2000 in most areas. Good luck!

$2000 for a used parker 978 is on the cheap side op, be prepared to pay even more for one.

99.99% percent of the homeowners out there do not have one, look for large factory sales; even then you will wait a long time.
One has too ask op are you going to be working on large metal projects?

Are you wanting such a beast to put in your man cave to wow everyone in your neighborhood?
The smaller the jaw size the better your luck in finding something; Good luck in your search.

Get yourself on every auction mailing list that you can in the state of Pennsylvania. Sooner or later you will see one listed in the auction inventory and/or your keyword search.

I did see a Parker 978 on one of these auctions within the last year but I have no need/interest in something of that size so I don't have any additional info.

I definitely don't need an 8" vise, just think they're cool. My current chas parker 974 1/2 does everything i need. I'll likely just grab a 6" looks like those are still simple to find and not outrageous in price.

Seems to be a big vise virus going around. A local guy asked me to help him find one, 6" minimum and 8" better. When I asked what sort of work required such a monster, the answer was a variation of "they're cool".

Because he was new to GJ vise vices and fixated on jaw width, he paid way too much for a recent production 8" Yost.
