Awesome job. It is always so much more work to do it right, but damn it turn out nice. I would paint the letters to make them stand out a bit. Please post a picture when you get it mounted. There is a Reed 3c by me for 150. I am thinking long and hard about it.

$150 for one of these is actually a great deal if it's not been welded back together. Look for a functioning split-ring, good base and all the bits and go for it.

I don't like the painted letter look myself, though I understand why others do it. The metallic shimmer on this one truly make it stand out without any additional attention.

Is that the one on CL? Take a good look I saw one in CA that had a big chunk of the back of the slide missing...

Alex: up here that 3C wouldn't last at $150 if it doesn't have any cracks or welds or any issues other than a bent swivel handle and some rust. the pipe jaws are in it which isn't always the case. your call, but I'd buy it and I don't need one for the $150 asking price or dicker a little if in person if has any little issues not shown in his pictures.

P0lar i'm still loading up the trailer full of vises to take to you when you are ready. awesome vise and is it still in the living room?

YESSIR, it is. ;) Actually, the kitchen now. Strange thing happened today. A hawk walked in the back door. Some undocumented minutes later, he flew up and sat on the reed's vise handle. YES, I got a photo - you can't make this stuff up.

Looks complete to me. Might wait a week and offer 100.

Okay, that's not the one I saw... That one looks in decent enough shape, I would grab it (but obviously try to haggle with the guy)...

The one I saw (just searched) was here... Note the big chunk of slide missing... :(

Jason I saw that vise too in my searching earlier today and what a jerk didn't mention the crack in the ad and you know he knows the back of the slide is missing a hunk by the way the paint can is placed.

good catch and do you have an app on your phone because that is a bit outside of Houston for you?

Here's a photo I took of him couch-surfing.. note the rebuilt Quincy X2 chilling out in the background... (also not relegated to the garage)

P0lar did you ever say how long the hawk stayed to visit or how you finally got him out of your living room?

pretty cool story and even cooler vise. I also saw you woke up the guys over there on the Vise thread.:thumbup::thumbup:

by the way was your bride in the house when the hawk had it's visit and if so was she freaking out or calm like you and just taking pictures?

He was checked in for a bit over 4 hours, actually. I finally threw a blanket over him and corralled him by hand. Strangely, he settled down and sat on my arm for a few minutes after that. I'm relatively certain he wasn't someone's pet (I hope not, anyway), but I do still have both eyes.

She wasn't home, but she saw it when she got home. She says that kind of stuff would only happen to me - wasn't surprised until the hawk sat on my arm. I'm not sure which is cooler, having a nice array of bench vises or a hawk minion. I'll contemplate that over morning coffee and consider making a poll...

Really glad to hear you still have both your eyes and that the hawk didn't dig into your arm because you'll need all those to shine up some of my vises i'm loading on the trailer to bring down to you.:D

I saw you put the picture of the hawk on the vise thread and I just added a post there.

VERY COOL story and vise.

take care and good luck on the next projects and feel free to post more pictures of that vise on your bench if it doesn't stay in the house.

I have a Reed mfg 3c vise in working condition and with it swiveling base also in working condition. I'm looking to possibly part ways with it. I don't want to under sale myself, what is a fair asking price?
