As a vise addict (like a lot of you) I’ve got an eBay alert always looking for the holy grail: the Reed 3C. It finally popped up on eBay this morning. Having bought 2 Prentiss and a Starret recently I am holding off but someone should snap this up. The 3C doesn’t pop up too often.

That seller has a huge collection. Probably worth checking out.

Why is a 3C the holy grail?

I was also wondering this. I thought perhaps it had to do with certain regions of the country not having many of them around. Like the Craftsman 5182, I also see a good number of these Reed 3C vises around here. I saw one about two weeks ago sitting at the flea for 75 bucks with no takers. Of course it was not all pretty and ready to go like the one the OP posted.

That 3C has some serious wear around the jaws. It's seen a lot of use. I'm always leery of vises with heavy wear and a heavy coat of paint...

I would think that no matter what, the 4C would be the holy grail since it's the biggest. That's why I am confused. Maybe the 3C is harder to find? i don't have any C-series Reeds.

I have a Reed 33, the predecessor of the 3C. It has a through the bench main bolt with a big cast wing nut to secure it to the bench.
