I have a chance to buy a Reed 6" swivel jaw vise in very good condition.

We are renting space in an industrial complex that is scaling back and unloading lots of stuff. Everything they get rid of goes through a reseller who has been their go to guy for the last 8 years and he knows the value of what he gets.

I spoke with the guy the other day while he was gathering up his latest haul and expressed interest but we didn't have time to discuss money. I don't mind paying a fair price but I don't want to give an insulting low ball counter offer either.

He has resold 100's of Lista and Vidmar cabinets but he's asking $350 for the short ones and $700 for the tall ones. Fair price but no "You ****" deals either.

I have two Reed 6” vises. They are both fixed base, but from different eras. I paid $75 for one of them and $90 for the other. You could expect to pay anywhere from $200 - $400 for a swivel jaw depending on condition.

I paid $45 locally for an equivalent It all depends on how long he has been trying to sell them. In my case the guy had been trying for months.

$45 for a 6" swivel jaw vise is unheard of in the machinery desert I live in. The $100 Maui mentions would be rare as well.

Thanks for the replies.

A 406 Reed (swiveling rear jaw, swiveling base) can get up to $500 I suspect. Personally, $200 would be at you **** level, those are very sought after models. If you're just talking regular jaws but a swivel base, under $200 would be fair to very good.

It's a swiveling rear jaw. The base doesn't matter to me, I'll be mounting it on a mobile stand. $200 wouldn't happen with this guy, I was thinking about topping out at $400 give or take. We'll see what he asks for it.

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I would expect all of $400. Like I said they're very sought after. If you really want a swivel jaw, they do come up for sale. I'm on the hunt for a Morgan 360 (6" swivel jaw) personally, might be a long time before one comes around but thats ok too.

I gave my Yost 33c to a good friend and I need to replace it. I'm not really willing to to pay much more than $450 or so. The swivel jaw would be nice, but not required.
