My dad has a Reed vice thats been in his shop 30 plus years
but in the last year has become extremely difficult to thread in and out. So we decided to take it apart and grease the threads on it and where there is metal on metal contact. We reassembled and it helped slightly but still hangs up. The treads looked to be in good shape so im wondering what else could be causing it to hang up and not be smooth? This vice has been used hard but judging by the condition of the threads i would expect it to run smoothly

there could be dirt in the channel that the nut slides in, it has a machined dovetail (if it is similar to mine) and if there is dirt in there it will get hung up on that
