Hey guys, so i came across two vices, that i can't decide between...and as much as i would love to get both...i really can't.

So both the vices have 4.5 inch jaws, both swivel, and both are in the same condition (i only have a pic of the Yost), the Reed opens to 12 inches, whereas the Yost opens to 8 inches.

They are both $55, soo please suggestions on which one i should get?

Lol, i guess i should have phrased my op better...it's not that i can't get both..it's that i shouldn't. Also i am not certain what i would do with two almost identical vices, if there is a definite bonus to having two similar vices, then i'll definitely get both...any uses for two similar vices?

Sometimes one is in the mood for beer and country music, sometimes blues and bourbon.

Oh, you mean two similar vises! Set one up with aggressive serrated jaws and one with smooth jaws.

You're asking the wrong guy.

One on the shop workbench, the other at the welding table (or) mounted on a base/post that can be moved. One by the front door, the other by the back door. One mounted high, the other mounted low. One inside, the other outside. One pointing east, the other pointing west. One holding up A-M, the other hold up N-Z of the Encyclopoedia Britannica.

My brother always kept two vises on the rear bumper of his service truck, a monster Wilton bullet, and a one-incher that held his customer's credit card until the work was done.

You WILL find a noble purpose for your second vise. Great price, incredible vises (I have both in many sizes -- don't ask me why).

Greeting and a novice to the sight. If I'm doing things wrong, as far as asking questions, etc....please let me know.
My dad passed away years ago and I was able to obtain a sweet reed vice, #2031/2R. Trying to find out info on it, approx date of mgt and original color. It's i decent shape and I really enjoy bringing old tools back to life. I found posts that are asking 200+ $ although I would never consider selling it.
Thanks for the help....

Randy, there is a huge vise thread on here, please post some pictures on there. I really like Reeds, they are my favorite. Since yours is a "R" it is probably 1940's or later, pictures really help. The 203 1/2 means it has 3 1/2" wide jaws and since it starts with 2 it should have a swivel base. The "R" probably stands for Revised, they have a split nut holding the main screw in.

If you only need just one, then get the Reed.---The missing slide support would be a deal breaker for me.---B100 don't miss nothing.---Even if the slide support is missing on the Reed also, I'd still take the Reed.

What Vantastic said.
