I purchased a collection of measuring tools from a buddy who retired in 2016 after a 30+ year career as a machinist. Included is a 2-3 inch micrometer from "Reed Small Tool Works". The name is on the box, and on the micrometer's thimble. Best I can find, that company was established in 1916, the company name was changed in 1927. The company where my friend worked required that all measuring tools be certified by the company annually for accuracy, and this little mike was certified in 2016 just before he retired. You can see the certification tag wrapped around the thimble. So my friend was using a tool made about 100 years ago in the cad-cam manufacturing of high precision machinery for use in oil field equipment. Kinda boggles my mind....
