I'm going to look at a Reed No. 107 tomorrow after work, but it has a problem with the lead screw. I'm going off of what the owner is saying, but he claims it has to be pulled open manually and can then be screwed shut just fine. Does this raise any concerns to the experts? I want a monster vise for the shop to, but I'm not looking for a heavy paperweight.

Sounds like the washer thing on the screw, close to the dynamic jaw is missing. Pull it apart and look. Use the fact that it doesn't operate right to get a good deal. Easy fix for you ;)

Thanks!! He's asking $125 OBO for a No. 107. I'm gonna offer him a Benjamin and see what he says. I believe they are well over 100lbs. It has no weld repairs or cracks going by the pics and his emails, but I'll give it a good once over along with the washer.

Thanks for the heads up. I have the day off, so I'll drive over in the morning.

Don't worry, I wouldn't do that to you. With any luck the set screw on the collar backed out and it won't need anything.

Had this exact situation with a Hollands 14. The owner didn't mention it but at $5 the price was right for a a vise that was in otherwise great shape. Got the vise home and the issue was a missing set screw in the collar on the main screw. Installed a new one and now it works perfect. Took longer to find the replacement set screw than to fix the vise.

Reed 107 comes in at right about 175lbs. It's a steal at $125, so if he declines $100 don't hesitate to go full asking price!

LOL!! The hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up for half a second:eyecrazy:!! I was gonna hop in my truck now and take the 15 minute trek to get it. I'm sure I'd beat you to it then.

Handle is bent as well. Still gonna grab it even at full asking price.

oh no, i think it went on epay 3 hours ago. good luck.

That is hilarious. People crack me up when it comes to CL. Four simple words to sellers GOOGLE BEFORE YOU SELL!!!Here's the CL ad with the $125 asking price. http://delaware.craigslist.org/tls/4053830304.html I guess it significantly increases on ebay:lol:. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Reed-Antiqu...9?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item4612c2a39f Either way I'm not going to loose any sleep over it of I get it or not. I have a 5" Parker on my welding table and a 6" Rock Island on a workbench. The 7" would have completed the circle, but it's far from necessary.
