Hoping somebody can help me.... I have a Reed 206 vise that I need a vise nut for. Ive talked to my coworker who works as a machinist at my job and he told me that it will most likely cost more to make a vise nut than the vise is worth. I've drilled and tapped holes for the vise years ago and I'd hate to scrap it/sell it for parts. I found someone online that has a Reed 2C Vise nut that LOOKS like it MIGHT work. Is there anybody out there that knows if Reed Vise nuts are interchangeable? Obviously a smaller Reed vise nut isnt going to work for my Reed 206..

On a random side note I talked to Logan at www.antiquevises.com. Nice guy.. super responsive to messages, phone calls and texts. He confirmed what the machinist at my job said... He didn't have the tooling to make a vise nut and couldn't justify the cost of tooling to make a vise nut.

FWIW I opened up a Reed 4" vise a couple of years ago and when I removed the Nut it was marked PVCo. As long as the spindle thread is known it makes finding a nut from a donor vise a little easier. That Prentiss nut fit the Reed fine and didn't appear to have been modified at all. Ed.

If it was mine, I would be tempted to make a new spindle and then make a nut out of Acme thread. It's probably cost prohibitive if you have to pay someone though.
