Hi, I am new to the forum but I know I can get expert advise here. What I have is a Reed 106 vise it weights in at 151lbs. I got it from a friend for $75, a steal I know. My question is were many of the 106’s made with a swivel base? I see some but they have a solid base. Is the swivel rare. I really like the weight and looks of the reed. I have taken it apart and everything appears to look like new even the jaws. What color were these vises originally. Any info would help I am just getting started on collecting bench vises.....thanks

Good Looking Vise, if having it worries you I can ask by brother, who lives in your state, to drop by and pay you a 20% profit on that Reed.

I think what you will find is a lot of guys finish them with BLO (boiled linseed oil) and call it a day. That is what I have done on almost all of my vises, and it protects while providing a durable finish to protect against corrosion. There is a huge vise thread in the general tool forum, which is where I would ask all vise questions.
